Need safe suggestions for Vitamins C and D

Post by grannyh »

Just wasted time and $200 on a useless consultation with Bone Density doc. He asked how much C and D I take and I said NONE. They all have fillers that tear up my system. Of course he never heard of Collagenous Colitis!

The office had urged me to make that appointment for the consultation because the bone loss has been 10% over the last couple of years... and The CC diagnosis is in my chart! Each time I have had a bone density test I have mentioned it again and also said I can't take C and D pills.

The Miacalcin nasal spray I have been using for three years has done no good without the C and D! That was a total waste of money too.

I asked how I could get C and D without taking pills full of fillers that will cause me problems..he said he had no idea....

Well, wasn't he alot of help! We have an awesome nutrition store in our area and they carry RKS products. I will see if I can find out where else he sells his products. He is a nutritional researcher from Seattle. One very smart and awesome man. His products are free of everything and highly absorbable.

I feel like a million bucks since I started taking his adrenal recharge herbal formula. I can't believe the difference in my energy and mood. Its like night and day.

I have a feeling his line of products are only sold at "Abundant Living" here in Portland and maybe some other stores in the Seattle area. I will let you know what I find out.

Hugs,

Lori

Can you eat citrus and go out in the sun? Those are the original ways to get C and D respectively! I'm amazed the Doc didn't mention that.

D is also readily available in salmon and other fish.

Here are some sources for D and C:

From looking at the charts on both pages, it appears that 20 glasses of orange juice a day would satisfy both the C and D requirements...LOL
Thanks for the links tho ... I may be able to use the part about C...

I have had similar problems when I have gotten my bone density tests done. I was really concerned when I first got sick because I was taking antenol, but if you don't keep anything in your body for long, its not going to build your bone mass up like its supposed to do. I also thought that explaining that I had CC would concern them. And it was ta tad, and I was told that it had nothing to do with bone loss! And not to worry, and the last time they didn't even weigh me or check my height. Tomorrow I am going for another bone density but in the building where my Rhuematologyst has her office. When I was 36 they told me my bones were like someone over the age of 80. It has improved since that time, still not equal to my age now of 44. I really don't know how you handle having to pay so much for your health care? They just changed some things here in Ontario, but for my income level I pay about 300.00 a year for whatever I need. That does not include dental or eyecare. But your main health needs. tests and so forth. I was just diagnosed as being disabled before my ex-husband left me so in our divorce agreement he has to keep me on his work health care plans. Without that I would not be able to afford my medicine, or allot of things, I don't know how you do it. BUT when you go to see someone and they act like that, useless, boy I would be really miffed!

 Sorry you had problems.

Gentle hugs

Granny-

Check out Freeda vitamins freeda.com (I think!) They make vitamins for people with various allergies - they even make one for people on the SCD diet! I think you can email them questions as well...I know even Polly (MI queen  ) found something through them she could take!

Good luck!

Haven't read all these wonderful responses yet, but there's a pharmacy called Piney Point Pharmacy here in town. They'll do compounding, so I'll bet if you called them, they could make a suggestion over the phone if you explained your problem to em. You are able to call Houston without a charge, aren't you? These folks would probably be eager to help you with your vitamin issues in hopes of getting your prescription med business.

Just an option for ya. Also, you might call around to area hospitals and ask where the local compound pharmacies are. Eventually one of them should have some information for you.

With all the sunshine we have here, you should be able to get plenty of vitamin D just by going outside for maybe 10 minutes. The longer times you see mentioned, I think, are averages which include places where there's not as much sunshine. You have to leave off the sunscreen, so be careful not to stay out too long, and be sure not to let your skin get red, ok.
I'm so fair, I'd have to go out early morning or late evening to keep from burning, even for only 10 minutes, maybe less.

Do you tolerate orange juice? Does the doc in charge of your bones think you can't absorb Vit C from foods like OJ? If he thinks you can absorb it, potatoes are supposed to have lots of vitamin C, aren't they? Best get a list of all the foods that are high in Vit C and emphasize the highest sources if you tolerate them.

Have you ever tried the ascorbic acid crystals? Ones I have list Buffered VitC 4250 mg per 1 teaspoon dose, plus cacium ascorbate 120 mg per dose, and get this -- other ingredients: NONE!!!

These crystals are often used by people who can't tolerate citrus, and can be sprinkled over salads and things to give em that zing.

This bottle is by Bluebonnet and is pretty much free of everything, allergen-wise. There are 28 doses/teaspoons/bottle, and I buy them at Whole Foods. They're made in Sugarland, but I don't know if any other healthfood stores carry them around here. Perhaps you could look up Bluebonet Nutritional Corporation and see if you can get a phone no. Actually, why not do this even before you call the compound pharmacy. Course their could be something else about vit C that upsets your innards. Guess ya better eat it with lots of food, especially right at first.

Good luck, and let us know how it all turns out, ok. This is my best shot. Perhaps someone else knows of another safe brand of these crystals.

Yours,Luce

Your gardens are beautiful, but how do you have time to play those games, with all that work?

Between the yards and keeping up two houses I am exhausted most of the time..LOL.

My daughter in law started a fast track nursing program so I run through their house twice a week cleaning and picking up. One month down 14 to go...LOL

That is why I haven't been posting much lately...

Grannyh,

I agree......beautiful gardens! WOW! You have been busy! I can't believe you have enough energy to do all of the gardening/housework you are doing!

Have you checked out Freeda vitamins? I swear by them.

Love,

Polly
