Carrie!! So glad nobody was hurt and that the house is intact and repairable. Surely the insurance will come through. :xfingers: :xfingers: :xfingers: :xfingers:
We've been very fortunate so far. My daughter has lost several electrical things like TV's but I don't think it ever scorched the carpet.

How scary! Were you home at the time? I think I would have flipped out!

Wow, Carrie - major bummer. Lightening can do a lot of damage that you may not discover until later. Be sure to check everything out.

A few years ago, lightening struck a CB "base" antenna that was on a pole next to my brother's house. It blew a big hole in the ground, but it also traveled down the CB antenna line, which was not even connected to anything, (it was just lying on the carpet, because he hadn't used it in many years). Anyway, when it came out of the cable, it set the carpet on fire, and then jumped to the wiring in the walls and the metal plumbing in the slab. When it got to the kitchen sink, it blew one of the faucet valves apart, and, of course, after he used some of the water to put out the carpet fire in his home office, he had to turn the water off at the valve under the sink. If he hadn't been home at the time, the house would probably have burned down, because the carpet was blazing away.

Practically every electrical appliance in the house was either "fried", or wouldn't work correctly. They tried to repair one or two things, (such as the dishwasher, and the washing machine, but other problems kept showing up, and I think they ended up replacing almost everything. As I recall, his insurance covered everything, except for one or two minor items that he discovered later. Needless to say, the very next day, we took down what was left of that blinkety-blank CB antenna. There were aluminum rods scattered all over the yard, but the main mast was still intact.

I'm sorry to hear that it happened, but I'm certainly glad that no one was hurt. Good luck with the insurance - be sure to check everything, and make a detailed list of everything that was damaged.

Wow, condolences to your appliances, carpet, etc. Glad it was only the inanimate objects that got fried. Bother though, that's for sure.

Hissy Fit Update...

Insurance adjuster just came out, hopefully they will cover some of the office stuff we lost, along with the house stuff. Yes, we were home at the time, and quite thankful that it was just stuff burning up, and not us and the dogs. Nothing like waking up to the house alarm blaring and smoke to completely ruin your week... :???: We are still having repair men out to check things, it actually blew out the outlet by my hen house. The poor working girls aren't going to lay eggs for a week, I bet.

Will check in later...off to work on getting our life back to normal....Thanks for all the concern...I didn't want you all to think that I fell off the face of the earth....

Hugs,
C

I've been surprised at how many people in this area got hit also....seems like Mother Nature just had it out for us..... :???: Good news is that we had another bad storm today and had lightning strikes all around us, but none hit our ranch....guess the Earth Mother has decided that we have had enough drama...YIPEE!!!
