Entocort update
I've been taking 9 mg/day. Sunday night my blood pressure was 158/102. (the highest over the las week was 163/104) Yesterday, I didn't take my Entocort in the morning and last night my bp was 135/83. This morning, 128/78. I am amazed! My primary doc. has been concerned about my bp but not my GI. Time to go doc shopping I think.

That's a pretty dramatic BP trend, all right. I think your remark about your GP being concerned, but not your GI doc, is pretty typical. When compared with most other docs, GI docs as a group, seem to be a pretty callous bunch. I guess when one spends as much time as they do, peering into the "nether regions" of the human body, it's no wonder they have a warped outlook on life.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Good luck, that's definitely the safest course, since Prednisone might cause the same problem as Entocort.

Hi Becky,
I would steer clear of Prednisone if possible, especially if you have problems with Entocort.
I have taken both when I had to & they were life savers at the time but the side effects are the problem. Entocort is usually kinder but costs the earth, at least here in Australia. Prednisone is on the National Health list & can be bought much cheaper.

That's what my doc said. My Entocort was $212, the nurse said Prednisone was cheap. My insurance won't cover Enterolab testing directly but if my doctor advises it, we have a flexible insurance account that will. The trick will be getting the doc to do it. I'm going to try my primary instead of my GI who I think I'm going to fire.
Liz, I think if I could just come down under for I'd be cured. I won trip to Fiji once, that's probably as close as I'll get.
Take care.

Hi Becky,
Well it is even seems more expensive for you. It is a while since I took it but I paid about $155 AU for it which at that time would translate to under $200 US. Maybe it has really gone up in price.
It was prescribed for me by my old GI doc who so inconveniently retired & the new one I saw told me it was only used for Crones disease. Then he found out he was wrong. He was very full of his own importance & thought he knew everything. I gave him the flick & have just been under the care of my wonderful GP ever since. I will eventually have to find another GI but I will put off having another colonoscopy for as long as I am able. I have lost count of those I have had over the last 30 or so years & even though the process itself is a snack compared to what it was way back then it is the preparation, which never used to bother me too much that upsets me now.
Hope you find a solution to your problems soon.
Cheers
