new consultation

Post by sunny »

Just heard from OHSU...Oregon Health Sciences University....have an appointment in about 2 weeks....I sent in my records for a review a few weeks ago and was accepted as a patient. So I am going there first....I'll be seeing a "specialist" in LC and c-diff according to the scheduler I talked with. I still have lots of entocort left as I am only taking one a day and holding my own. For the past 10 days have been only eating meat and eggs. I had carrots last night and my sugars were elevated so no more carrots....GF flours have same impact on sugars as regular flour, so no breads. Even fruit is elevating them, so looks like I am becoming a full-fledged CARNIVORE!
When I picked up a Rx for my Metformin, I also was getting a refill on one of the heart drugs and the pharmacist put in a package insert on metformin...."Do not take Metformin if you have Congestive Heart Failure and take meds for it such as Lasix." WHAT???????? What is my Endocrinologist thinking??? So...I think....uh....why take a drug so that I can eat high carb foods?....why not cut out those things and be able to not take the drug? well, DUH!!!! :???: So.....working my way out of another drug.....

Sunny,

 on the OHSU appointment. That sounds promising.

You know, I get the impression that some specialists don't give a hoot about any other issues that a patient might be dealing with. They seem to have the old "not my job" attitude, and I suppose they expect the GP to make sure that anything they prescribe is safe for the patient, rather than going to the trouble of verifying it themselves.

It's a good thing you're on the ball, and looking out for your own health. I don't recall if you have hypothyroidism, but Synthroid can interact with Metformin, and so can Prednisone, so that probably also applies to Entocort. Metformin seems to be rather tricky stuff to use, though I'm sure it can be quite beneficial to those who qualify to take it without any undue risk.

Yes, Tex...do have hypothyroidism....Hashimoto's.....take Levothyroxin.
That might make a good survey question if others have thyroid problems also....you mentioned that in another post....
Barbara...I keep finding that to be the case that no one is watching out for me but me! Except maybe the pharmacist, that is.....makes me  too!!!
