We're Getting Closer to Opening Our Doors to the Public
Hi All,
Since we're getting closer to opening for business here, please remember that everything that we say will soon be visable to the rest of the world. With that in mind, the moderators probably need to go through some of the threads to make sure that none of them contain any information that we don't wish to make public.
Also, be aware that once I "unlock" the first level of security, that presently locks the entire website, surfers anywhere in the world will be able to see our member list, and who is on it. If you do not wish to let your e-mail address be visable to the world, now is the time to update your profile, and deselect that option.
If you would like to see what the world will see after the first level of security is removed, after you log on the first time, but BEFORE you log onto the board itself, click on "Members" and you will see what they will be able to see. Notice that if your e-mail address is displayed, anyone can access it. Registered members can still send Personal Messages to other members, even if their e-mail addresses are deselected, so we will still be able to communicate through PMs, even though our e-mail addresses might be hidden.
If anyone has any information that should be added to one of the information forums, now is a good time to do that, also.
If anyone has any questions, or relevant observatons, now is a good time to mention them. I'll post a warning ahead of time when a definite opening time has been decided upon. We don't want anyone to get caught off-guard, (I almost said with their drawers down, but that seems like a rather unsophisticated pun. LOL).
Love,
Wayne

Wayne,
Okie Dokie! I've licked my wounds long enough and feel ready to greet the world! With the great group of moderators and members here we should be able to keep trouble makers off the board. This is still a concern of mine- it's just bound to happen.
I think I will hide my e-mail as you mentioned, since as members we can private message each other. That's a great feature.
Thanks for all your hard work. Here's to you all and our future.
Love,
Joanna

Hi Tex. I know we need to open up but it sure has been nice feeling so safe and secure here!
I have a suggestion about the Main Message Board. It's kind of far down on the home page. Is there some way to move it up, or bold it, or use a different background color or font? I know when I first joined this forum I had trouble finding the MMB (as did a few others).
Love,
Carrie

Hi Carrie,
When you and I first signed up on this board, we were looking for the MMB, because we pretty much already had our programs in place when we signed up here, and most of us are not likely to review all the newbie stuff. On the other hand, I would hope that the newbies would read all the information assimilated for them before posting. If they will do that, it will greatly expedite their learning curve, and save a lot of time for us, and them, also. If not, then we have wasted a lot of time collecting and writing this stuff, for nothing. Frankly, I would prefer that they not even find the MMB until AFTER they have reviewed most of the information forums.
That's the reasoning behind the layout. I figure that the experienced members should be able to navigate the site better than newbies, so we are trying to guide the newbies to the appropriate forums. The MMB is NOT where we want them to go first. We'll see how it goes when the newbies start arriving, and we'll make changes as they seem appropriate, according to how things proceed.

Hi All,
Note that PMs are always available. The "PM Button" even shows if an unregistered member, (or non-logged-on member), clicks on the memberlist. However, they are secure, since no one can send, (nor receive), a PM, unless they are registered, and logged on. Therefore if anyone wants to request an e-mail adress from any other memher, they can easily do so by sending that member a PM.

I'm confused
I just want to make sure my e-mail address is not available to the world, but on the Profile page it says e-mail is a required field so can anyone open up the profile page and see it?

Hi Momster,
The e-mail address is required for registration, in case the admin, (me), needs to contact you about something, and it provides another way to bar a member who turns out to be a chronic troublemaker.
No one can view your profile except you and admin, (me). IOW, either your own personal password, or admin privileges, are required for viewing your profile. You can easily check this by trying to view someone elses profile. If you are able to do it, please let me know, because we have a problem.
Try this: log off, then click on memberlist, and then click on your username, and you will see exactly what an unregistered user can see. Note that if an e-mail button is available, it works. The PM button will not work, however, unless you are logged on.
To deselect displaying your e-mail address, go down to "preferences" in your profile, and select "no", for the first option, (where is says "Always show my e-mail address:").

Yes, I have already selected the no option, so now I feel safe.
