There are no free lunches - they all may cause hair loss, but obviously responses vary for individuals.

Many members of this board take Asacol, (which is from the same group of 5-ASA meds as Lialda), and budesonide, (Entocort), but I don't recall seeing many posts complaining about hair lossm (though obviously there have been a few). Hair loss is much more likely to be associated with hormonal changes, (or hormone-based medications or supplements).

I had hair loss w/Asacol, but I know Pegster did not - so it really varies....Of course I have thin, fine, mousy brown hair, and Pegster has beautiful thick, curly red hair - sometimes life ain't fair

I found OTC thinning hair shampoo to help a lot, while I needed it - thankfully I no longer take Asacol...

Between thyroid, chemo, Tamoxifin, aging, heredity and many drugs I quit because they were on a list from the medical college at Cornell newsletter and the drugs I take, I do not have a lot of hair. What I do have is pretty much like cotton candy fluff (not sticky, though.) LOL

You're most welcome. Remember, though, we're all different, and side effects affect all of us differently. Also, usually only a small percentage of people in trials have any particular given side effect. With most of these meds, the percentage of people who experience hair loss, is less than one percent. That's true for Lialda, and while I can't find a specific number for Entocort, it's certainly less than 5 percent, since any adverse event that occurs in five percent or more of patients in trials, is specifically listed in the tables that are used to report trial results.

Incidentally, are you aware of the class action lawsuit that was filed a few months ago, against the makers of Zetia, (regarding that fact that it is no more effective than the much cheaper generic version, zocor)?

If you're still taking Zetia, you may also be interested in this article:

Also, I don't want to worry you unnecessarily, but are you aware that there have been reports that Zetia may cause drug-induced hepatitis and liver failure?

I guess I better sign up for the Worst Drugs site again. No, not aware of it all. I did talk to my regular doctor (edocrinologist) when all the stuff came out about Vytorin...I can't remember what she said.....YES, I'm still on it and so is DH!

DH has a doctor's appointment next week and it will be interesting to hear what he says. He goes to a different doctor than I do.

Tex, I'm going to come up with new short hand for you. MO. Your help has been amazing and I am so thankful.

BTW, I've never ever heard any person say much obliged.

I'm glad I could be of some use.

I suspect the use of that phrase sort of faded away, (at least around here), about a generation ago. I rarely hear it, these days.

You're very welcome.
