The title got messed up. I'm at my wit's end.....
Finally talked to doc. I think her office just gave her the Prevelance Study abstract which I was using to show the legitimacy of Dr. Fine. She wanted me to use Prometheus Labs and I said no. She said that was the lab recommended at all their medical meetings. The other option was an allergist (my Dad was one) but I said no to that, too. I bet she was surprised.......

She said I could have someone from EnteroLab call her but they are not answering the phone right now.

She said she had a lot of patients...I think meaning she wasn't going to read the web site. She may have one fewer. I won't let DH go to her if she thinks she has too many patients.

She didn't think that BC/BS would cover anything and gave me examples of her patients denials.

Got EnteroLab on the phone by calling again. They'll have a nurse talk to my doctor but it may not be until tomorrow.

I think this is a Diazepam moment. I am really upset.

I met another GI socially and he is a DO (not exactly sure what that is). He's a friend of a friend. I imagine he's probably just as busy. I may make a test phone call to see how long it would take to see him.

Someone I know wanted to change doctors and the new office wouldn't see her because she'd seen someone in town. She had to go to B'ham AL to be treated. I don't want that to happen to me.

Hi Joan,

I believe that Phylis manages the lab at Enterolab, and she often answers the phone, (and e-mails). She's very knowledgeable about stool testing, (and the lab work in general), and she should be able to answer any questions that your doctor might have.

Many doctors tend to get "testy" at times.

Here's a definition of a "DO", (Doctor of Osteopathic medicine):

Thanks, Tex.

No, I got Kathy both times I called but I think Phyllis will be calling my GI.

As soon as I posted, I looked up DO but sounds a bit weird. I think DH is going to schedule his colonoscpy with the DO, though.

I imagine I ticked off my doc by saying "no" too many times.

Why doesn't Dr. Fine publish his stuff? It sure would make MC life more simple.

Saying "no" too many times could be the problem - doctors like to feel that they/re in charge of their patients' treatments, and many of them seem to have fragile egos.

We've often wondered the same thing, (about Dr. Fine publishing his work). Sometimes I wonder if he might have stepped on the wrong toes. There still seems to be a very strong "Good Old Boy's Club" attitude, in many aspects of medicine. His "rock & roll" songwriting and performing might be viewed as "improper behavior" for a doctor, by a few "stuffed shirts" in positions to call the shots, and/or pull the right strings. Maybe he's just "burned out". Who knows? Whatever the reason, it's certainly frustrating, as you say.

Thanks very much, Maggie. I think DH will be going to the DO. Our friend goes to him and recommends him. I may switch because I don't want my doc to have so many patients. I wish I'd been smart enough to say not only "I know" when she said she had a lot of patients but also I couldn't get an appointment for almost two months after my procedure. That was going to be when we were out of town so now it's the end of August! If I had a real appointment, I wouldn't have had to be on the phone so much...........Do the rest of you have to wait this long?

If the drug store doesn't have a Welchol prescription for me from the GI's office, DH will be showing up at their office in person this morning. I told him to cancel his colonoscopy while he was there.

Hi Joan:

My "Family Physician" is a DO and I have had NO problems with Dr. McDougal. He has been treating both myself and David for many years and works very closely with all our specialist because David has COPD and Prostate Cancer. I have SLE (Systemic Lupus) so he insist that each of our other Dr's fax him updated information when we have scheduled visits. If for someone reason he doesn't receive one he's on the phone wanting to know "why". Hope this new OD is just as caring as ours.

Love and God Bless:
Jodi

Thanks, Jodi. I'm happy that you have such nice things to say about your DO. I guess I'm leary because I really don't have much of a clue about DO's. I thought they just couldn't get in a MD program. Sorry, I don't mean to insult anyone or their DO.

Glad to see you.

No Problem Joan:

I had the same idea as you until I gave Dr. McDougall a chance and I'm glad I did.

Love:
