Asacol vs. Food Poisoning

Hello everyone,
I know I haven't been around much - been awfully busy. Hope everyone is doing well, and enjoyed the holiday!

About three weeks ago I was put on Asacol by my GI for maintainence, after 3 mos. on Entocort. This past week I was sick all week, explosive D, naseau, migraine headache, low grade fever, unable to eat, etc. After four days of this I called my GI doc, and he told me to stop taking the Asacol immediately, and give some of the all embarassing tests. The sickness cleared up within two days. I thought if it were a bad reaction to the drug it would have hit me soon after starting, not almost three weeks in.

I know Asacol has been a difficult drug for some of you to tolerate, is this what your symptoms were like? I'm just curious, as the medicine had seemed to be beginning to work for me. I know this is all trial and error, to find which combo of meds and diet will work best to keep the MC at bay....

Asacol was the first medication I took after a dx of CC and my symptoms were very similar to yours. Made me much worse than I already was within a day or so. I called the GI, was instructed to stop using it and saw improvement immediately.

I wonder if the Entocort you took for 3 months may have possibly provided your body with some residual lingering protection of some type which is why this reaction didn't surface for almost 3 weeks. Just a guess.

I haven't been around much lately either- did you have good luck with the Entocort and what is your plan now as far as meds or meds/diet?

Sorry to hear you had such a bad reaction. No fun. Hope you bounce back quickly.
