We are headed to Yosemite this weekend to camp with the Cub Scouts...we went last year - it was fine - but we stayed at a site 30 miles up and away from the valley floor - not very convenient....This year they procured the group campsite *in* the valley - I found out yesterday - no running water and "pit toilets" aka porta-potties! I *try* to be a trooper regarding camping, but no flush toilets is typically a "deal-breaker" for me...BUT this is our *only* chance to camp this summer - we pick up the puppy on Sunday, and won't be able to have him "out and about" until he is 4 months and fully immunized - which will be late Sept. So after a family pow-wow I decided to "suck it up" and deal with it - we're still going...

Saturday we have a park beautification service commitment (we are camping for free - though they *obviously* aren't concerned with the volunteers' health/comfort too much since we basically have an amenity-free site!) - so while we are out and about in the park, I should have access to flushies

Gack - I'm *such* a whiner

This will be a beautiful nature-insipred weekend, I'll be in awe of the natural beauty so I won't even notice the nasty toilets...

Today it will reach 108 here - it will cool some by the weekend, but will remain upper 90's through the weekend - our A/C is woefully inefficient (needs to be completely replaced) so staying home doesn't sound like the most comfortable prospect either...

Have an absolutely wonderful time.........

I've been thinking of my trip in a few weeks to DH's BIG reunion and then on to the land of Cleve to see Mom and DBs. I'll pack a cooler with GF waffles and other stuff for sure. Should be interesting.

I've already told DH that I am NOT going on the reunion bus tour. We follow in our car or not at all. I guess it will depend on the way I'm feeling.

Sounds like a great trip! I would love to visit the west coast :) I recently went through the same problem, the dreaded pit toilets. I volunteered to be a chaperon for my 6 year old daughters class backpacking/camping trip to Mt. Monadnock here in NH. I used to do this as a living pre LC and could use the bathroom in the woods with the best of them. There's nothing like digging a 12in. hole to do your business in every hour or so, especially when you gotta go NOW! I started pre-digging my holes so I could run and go, but I digress :) For the trip with my daughters class I loaded up on my DTO, Bentyl, and a bottle of Immodium and managed to do all right. There were a couple of uncomfortable moments, especially running out of the tent in the middle of the night in the rain and cold (it was 40 degrees) in my pj's to use a pit toilet with spiders but I survived. As long as I know no one is nearby waiting I'm usually ok but I think I prefer going in the woods to the pit toilets lol! I hope you have a wonderful time and the trip doesn't make things worse.

Morning Mary,

It sounds like a wonderful trip and I wish you great luck on the toilet situation. I think taking the immodium is your best bet and then I feel you will be fine. Enjoy the time and especially the puppy.

Mary, I feel your pain. When we camp at Mono Hot Springs....yikes. Good thing DH bought me a little potty for the tent. (I still have to clean it, but it's better than those hole in the grounds. ICK.) BTW, we hit 112 here on the valley floor yesterday.

Gosh......we are getting absolutely chilly here in Okieland. Tulsa hasn't hit 100 yet this year. But we have had two days of downpours this week, 4 inches each...so I guess we are trading summer heat for floods.....

That's the way it was around here last year. This year is just the opposite - hot and dry.
