Back For Just Today!

Post by Dee »

Had my 2 Grandchildren since last Saturday and took them camping with us.. Lots of fun!
We took them to a place called the Rolling Acre Ranch where they have between 200-400 animals.
We went on a 1 hour ride on a horse drawn wagon and we were given buckets of feed.. My 3 year old grandson smiled thru the whole hour ride.
Along the way the driver would stop and the animals would immediately run up to the wagon!!
What a hoot that was!!!!!!
We stopped where there were some of the biggest ostriches that I have ever seen.
I had my back to this one and that stinker gave me a peck on the back because I wasn't feeding it! !!!
I just said, "Sorry, Buster, but you're not gonna get any meat off of this body!!!!!
Then we are almost to the end so we stop by the camels.. And then 1 of those stuck it's nose up to my back and I could feel his prickly whiskers thru my shirt!!! I thought, must be my day with these animals!
It's been a busy week so Grandma is tired ....

Love

Better an ostrich or a camel, than a bear or a lion, I suppose.

You know, I'm beginning to suspect that you and Jack like to go camping. LOL.

Tex!!
I love the outdoors!!
And sitting around a campfire when the sky is clear and looking up at the magnificent stars and planets!
Listening to all of the different sounds coming from the woods.
Watching the humingbirds, yellow & red finches, bluebirds, cardinals every morning while having my coffee.
Meeting people.
Going into Cambridge to the Farmer's Market. I met and talked to a very nice young man who raises and sells free range chickens, beef, turkey and another one that grows all organic produce. I talked for quite a while with both young men.
Jack & I figure we are cooped up long enough during the winter and take advantage of the summer months to do what we love best..

Love

Painted Bunting

Post by JLH »

Did you ever get to see one of those up close and personal? I doubt that they get that far north.

We joined the Hummer/Bird group when we moved down here and went to a bird banding in Ft. Morgan Alabama.
That's where we met our first painted bunting among others.

Joan,
If your asking if we've gotten up close and personal with the hummers, OH! YEAH!!
There is something about my husband that they love!
They get so close to him that it's unbelievable!!
He'll be sitting outside and they will hover about 2 inches from his ear.. He'll turn his head their way and look them right in the eyes!!
I have a little bully one, too!! He seems to be the smallest of the bunch and will sit on the feeder and as the others try to come down to get the nectar, he'll chase them away.
They are alot of fun to watch.
In the evening there are hundreds flying around 3 of our trailers!!

Love

Hi Dee,

So happy that you embrace and love the outdoors - and your posts reflect it. The animal farm sounds great and there is one we visit when we go to England and take the grandsons. Next time we will have added Ava - our granddaughter - to the group.

Hummers are VERY territorial and it always seems the littler one are the most defensive.

Enjoy our time outside and relish the stars.

Love, Maggie
