I bought some Cream of Buckwheat at the HF store. Do you think I can put it in the food processor? I was too grits like for me. I'd like it more like Cream of Wheat. Finer, in other words.

I found some GF French toast a the HF store and it was a nice change from Rice Chex and GF waffles but it is so caloric.......

TIA

I'm sure Dee is gone camping again, but I see no reason why "processing" the buckwheat would cause any problems. It may absorb water more easily, but if it gets too "soupy" you can always reduce the amount of water slightly.

Any grain-based products are going to be on the high side, as far as calories are concerned. If you're looking for GF treats, have you tried the Kinnikinnick Vanilla-Dipped Donuts yet? They're superb, and they make a great desert, (but, of course, they have about two-hundred-and-fifty-something calories, each).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I buy regular buckwheat groats and blend them to a fine powder in my blender. I've never made cream of buckwheat cereal, but I'm sure you could blend it to a finer consistency.

Yep!You can put it in the food processor. It should come out fine!! Just cook them in some water, pinch of salt, about the same amount of time you would oatmeal.
I put granulated sugar in my food processor and make my own powdered sugar instead of the bagged that has cornstarch in it. It comes out really fine.

Thanks, all.

I'll eat it with butter and salt just like I do Cream of Wheat. In fact, we used to use it as a side dish instead of rice or potatos, just like my Mom does.

Good idea, Gloria, it's got to be cheaper than the itty bitty box at the HF store.

I've been going through the recipes and saw this thread. I've been making Cream of Rice and find that it tastes similar to Cream of Wheat. I've even been able to duplicate the CoCo Wheats cereal by adding 2 Tbsp. of dry hot chocolate mix (I make my own) to it. Add strawberries and a little DF milk and you have a delicious cereal. You can purchase a box of Cream of Rice in a regular grocery store, but I've also found it cheaper in bags in the Indian foods section.

Joan,
I know that you're not able to have chocolate, but you could add other flavors and fruits.

Yes, Gloria, cream of rice was a Godsend to me .
I've used it for about 5 years now and there is alot of variables that you can add to it to make it more tasty and not so bland.
I like it with fresh peaches when they are in season with a little maple syrup drizzled over it.

I dislike maple flavor as well as coffee flavor!

I never have tried any dairy substitutes. I guess I should. I used to drink skim milk in the olden days..........
