Still alive and kickin'.........just trying to finish up getting our life back to normal after the mother nature hissy fit when our house was hit by lightning and it fried quite a bit of stuff. At least the insurance company has been great, it's just a matter of finding replacements for everything that died.

Rick is about the same, still GF,SF,DF but no real change. He is going to a new GI Monday, since the Lialda didn't work, maybe he will have something new and exciting to try.

We recently bought a deep fryer, so we have been having homemade fries...YIPEE!!! Speaking of that, kitchen guru...do you have a recipe for GF,SF,DF onion rings?

How have you been doing?

Hugs,
C :pigtail:

I'm doing well!!
Thanks for asking!
As far as the onion rings, what do use use to make pancakes???
You can use that batter with less sugar and add some seasonings to it.
Or use just rice flour, seasoned, a beaten egg with a little water.
Slice onion rings, coat them with the egg & water, then dredge them in the seasoned rice fliour and fry in oil.
Hope to hear that Rick has Good Luck with the new GI.....

 I'm really sorry to hear that Rick hasn't seen some improvement yet. His is really a tough case and I hope he gets a break real soon. You too, because I know it's really hard on you also.

Thanks you two, after the office call with the new GI, we both need a little cheering up. Typical....he hates Enterolab, told Rick to go back to eating gluten, soy and milk, even after Rick told him that yogurt bothered him, he just kept telling him that he needed to start eating yogurt.(Can you say...not listening to a word we said) And when we mentioned that after unloading cow feed with wheat and soy in it, Rick breaks out in a rash on his arms where the feed dust touched him... the Medical Diety just kept telling us that if it was a gluten problem, it would be all healed and he would be good as new in 3 weeks.....just makes you want to scream

He started him on Flaygl and Cipro, since he might have picked up c-diff, but didn't test him, just gave him those, and another script for Vanc...it would be possible that the last c-diff test didn't catch it, so at least it is yet another stab in the dark at something that will work.....but we still will not be going back to this guy.......on to the next GI....

Thanks for letting me vent....

Luv you all to death...Hugs,
C

Your husband's situation is always on my mind. I wish something would "click" with him. The usual remedies haven't worked for Rick. His GI sounds like a piece of work. Unfortunately, he sounds all too typical. I hope you can find someone more knowledgeable about this disease.

Carrie,

I'm so sorry that Rick struck out with the new GI doc selection. It's a shame that doctors aren't as easy to judge as cattle or horses. Unfortunately, it's easy to be misled - they can sometimes look pretty good, until they open their mouth to speak.

I agree - at this point, a "just-in-case" treatment for C. diff is probably not a bad idea, I'm not sure just what the Cipro is for, (presumably a "shotgun" approach, just in case some other source of infection is present), but be aware that the Cipro treatment will almost surely give Rick a respite from the D, and then you, Rick, and the doctor, will be tempted to conclude that you're on the right track. (Which certainly might be true), but for most of us, Cipro will stop the D, for as long as we take it, and the hiatus will usually last for a couple of days or so, after the treatment ends.

Hugs,
Tex

DANG!!!!!!
So sorry it was strike out with the the GI!!
There seems to be so many knucklehead GI's out there. PMO royally!!!!!
It's the pits when you have to keep searching for one that is up to snuff as far as MC, gluten, food intolerances..

Thanks guys.......this guy just had me growling within the first 2 minutes of the office call. We will try his c-diff and "shotgun" use of Cipro, and see if anything changes. But right now, it's either the meds or Rick has a stomach bug. Was up vomiting all night and now has terrible leg cramps...His legs were bothering him before the drugs, and seem to be getting worse. Is that an MC thing? They cramp and ache all the time???

We have a call into our beloved Internist to see if she has any ideas and to tell her that we struck out with the new GI....

Hug's to all, thanks for letting me vent...

Carrie,

Vomiting is listed as a possible side effect of both metronidazole, (Flagyl), and ciprofloxacin, though I don't recall anyone here mentioning that as a problem while taking either of them.

The leg cramps are probably an indication of an electrolyte deficiency, and, of course, the vomiting is making the problem much worse. The most likely suspect is potassium, but a deficiency of virtually any electrolyte could cause leg or foot cramps. As you are probably aware, bananas are one of the best sources of potassium. If Rick can't tolerate bananas, your doc can prescribe some potassium supplement pills. I took them for a few days, once when I had been reacting for a while, and my electrolytes became depleted. They may also be available OTC, for all I know.

Leg cramps are also a common symptom of dehydration, so if Rick is already taking something to keep his electrolytes in line, then dehydration may be the issue. Probably, it's a combination of the two. Diarrhea and vomiting impose a severe drain on the body's resources, and one can get dehydrated and/or short of certain electrolytes very quickly, sometimes.

Leg cramps are not necessarily an MC "thing", but many of us have had the problem, due to dehydration or electrolyte imbalances caused by severe MC reactions.

I hope the nausea is gone by now. I hated nausea even more than the D, when I was reacting.

Hugs,
Tex

Thanks Sweetheart,

I have been trying to keep banana on hand for him, and he hasn't hurked since last night...YIPEE!!! I was also able to find potassium supplement with nothing scary added at our local grocery store. So hopefully between that and trying to keep enough fluids down him, this too will pass. I know that any antibiotic makes me hurk, and I have a cast iron stomach ( I eat rare meat and raw eggs and never get sick... ) The leg cramps have been getting worse for the past month...so I wondered if it was yet another quart low problem. When they tested him for D3, he was OMG low...I wish they made a high potency supplement for MC'ers with absorption problems that had everything they might need...Wish, Wish, Wish...

Hugs,
C
