Off to Ohio!

Post by Sara East »

Now that I can get back on the computer I'm off on vacation :) I just wanted to say hi and let everyone know I'll be back in 2 weeks, we're visiting family in Ohio. The day after I get back here to NH I have my long awaited appointment in Boston with a specialist! She's at Brigham and Women's hospital and has seen a lot more cases of LC than my local GI. I'm keeping my fingers crossed she will be able to help, most of the time when I see a specialist for LC I get pawned off on an intern or PA. None of the doctors take it very seriously and it burns me up because they have no idea how long I've been dealing with this and how uncomfortable I am. My husband has been giving me IV fluids every few days because of how dehydrated I get. The past few weeks my BP has been extremely low, like 80/70, I've gotten dizzy and passed out, and my heart rate is at about 140 at rest. I can barely make it down the stairs without getting out of breath let alone take my kids out to play. It's been 7 long years with no relief and I'm getting really tired of this!

Whoa! Your symptoms are a lot like Tessa's. She was initially diagnosed with POTS, (Positional Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), and eventually diagnosed with hyperaldosteronism, adrenal insufficiency, and I think they suspect hypopituitarism. If your BP issues are due entirely to dehydration, you are really having a dehydration problem.

I hope you can enjoy your trip to Ohio, and good luck with your appointment, when you return. You definitely need a doctor who can get to the bottom of all this.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
