Swollen limph nodes
Hi...
I had to leave work today because of painful swollen limph nodes and pain swallowing. I have shiverings and sweats (but no fever), feel tired and (as you know) have not much appetite...
This is not the first time it happens, and even though they prescribed antibiotics at the doctor, I am not going to take them as I know they are not good for MC and their diagnosis is wrong: Pharyngitis... My GP was on holiday and I was checked up by a different doctor... I would bet she had no idea...
Have you suffered this before? Any idea of what I could do?
I know it is not Pharyngitis, because I am sure it is due to the MC and the inmune system... As you know I have been not very well the last days (I have abdominal pain when I am standing up and therefore the swollen nodes could just be another effect of MC)... Don´t you think so?
Love,
Tessa.

I can't answer your question, but I did stumble upon this website yesterday that you and others might find useful:
http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/index.html
You can look up things by symptom or disease and you can also find things that are typically misdiagnosed or are close to those symptoms. Found it very interesting.
HTH,
Mike

Hi Tessa. I have not had what you are describing but I don't think those symptoms are related to MC. It sounds to me like you may have an infection (maybe strep throat); or, maybe your doctor is correct and you do have Pharyngitis.
Many here have taken an antibiotic known as Z-Pak (generic name azithromycin) with good results. In fact it is the only antibiotic I've read about that didn't cause problems with MC. However, only a doctor can advise you if that is the right choice for you now.
Here are some links that may help you:
Pharyngitis http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency ... 000655.htm
Zithromax Z-Pak http://www.drugs.com/MTM/Z/Zithromax_Z_Pak.html
Tessa, this is one time I think you need professional medical advice. You can explain to any doctor that you may have problems with most antibiotics due to your MC. Then ask if Z-Pak is appropriate to treat your other symptoms.

Carrie

Hi, Carrie.. Thank you for your advice... I am so confused.
The doctor had no idea of antibiotics that were good or bad for my MC... I think she even had no much idea of what MC was... I am sure you thought the doctor knew what she was doing... but she just asked me which drug I thought would be the best for me... (Am I the doctor?)
As I did not answer, she suggested taking "Amoxilina"...
I have to see the specialist on Tuesday, the 5th. Maybe it would be better to wait for his opinion.
My previous experience makes me believe it is related with MC because last time I had it, two months later I ended in Hospital with my MC worsen... That time, I took a lot of different drugs, including anthibiotics but they were all useless...I also had no voice for more than 2 days...
Of course, now there is a chance of really having pharyngitis... My voice is becoming affected too... I am a little confused, I admit.
I´ll visit the website you recommended. Thank you for worrying about me and for your help...
Love,
Tessa.

Hi Tessa,
Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I agree with what Carrie has said. It is easy to find out with a test (culture) if you have a pharyngitis due to strep. If so, you would need an antibiotic. If not, you might be able to get by without it, since it would most likely be a viral pharyngitis. I'm sure your doc will do the culture for you. If you have strep, it would not be a good idea to wait until the 5th.
Amoxicillin is very likely to cause diarrhea in NORMAL people - so with MC, I'll bet it's even more likely.
Swollen lymph nodes are not a usual problem associated with MC. I think it is wise to rule out infection (strep) first. If it is not infection, and if you have had a recurring problem with swollen lymph nodes, I'm sure your doctor will want to biopsy one of the nodes.
I hope you feel better SOON.
and love,
Polly

Hi Tessa,
Yes Love i know just how you feel, i am on antibiotics at the moment because the gland in my neck felt as though it was about to explode and i could'nt stand it any longer, my doctor did'nt know what it was either, so i went and had a scan done private. the picture on the scan looked like i had swallowed a golf ball but it is very painful at time's. I still dont know what is causing it and this has been going on for months now, but i am back up the hospital in a couple of weeks time perhaps i will find out a bit more then, i will let you know what happens, but dont worry, your not on your own here.
Bye for now, keep smiling,
God bless,
Love Bobbie.

Thank Bobbie for your post. I hope you are feeling better now... I took some "Paracetamol" today for the pain (but no antibiotic).
Please, keep in touch and tell me how you are going on (by pm if you like).
Love,
Tessa.
