Oh, yes, I used to take Armour in the olden days. Now I take Synthroid not generic. My dosages have gone up and down for the last few years even though I take pills 1 hour before eating. (I never used to do so.) I've been on as little as .75 to a high of .125, I think.
I was diagnosed by radio active iodine uptake (I think that is right) and a geiger counter. The tech thought the machine was broken because I was only about 5 lbs. overweight but very hypo which probably made the counter not click much.

Jodi,
That's disappointing news, all right, but Joan is correct, you need to go ahead with the ultrasound test. It's not to determine how well your thyroid is working, (or not working), - it's to check the nodule for possible malignancy. It probably is not malignant, since it apparently is not producing thyroid hormone, but it's always best to be safe, since catching something like that early is so important.
It's pretty difficult to miss the signs of hyperthyroidism in a good set of lab results, but one never knows - many doctors are not very good at catching thyroid problems that are not obvious enough to be "no-brainers". If you get a chance to get a copy of those lab results, it might be interesting to see what they actually show. My doc initially told me that I was not hypothyroid, based on the lab results, but he was wrong.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Joan & Tex:
I've had a chance to calm down and have had my hubby, my niece and my cousin all threaten me with a "toilet swirly" if I don't go. Sooooooooooo, I'm taking everyones advise and following through with the ultra sound. Sorry, if I upset anybody with my mood swing I didn't mean to.
When I go back in next week for my follow up with my PP I will ask for a copy of my lab work on my thyroid and pass what info I can onto Tex.
I'm just having a hard time dealing with one brick wall after another. Guess I need to get down on my knees and pray for more "patience" because it seems like I'm very short in that department right now.
Love and God Bless:

Yep, once the white coats manage to get you stuck on the "medical treadmill", it can seem to be a never-ending ordeal, but they'll eventually run out of tests, and turn you loose, so that you can enjoy life again.
One time I got so fed up with their drawn out schedule of doing another test every couple of weeks, that I decided to not eat between tests, so that I wouldn't have go through the cleanout procedure again, (this was between a set of barium x-ray tests, and a colonoscopy exam). They insisted that I had to do the cleanout anyway. I got even with them though, because when they wheeled me into the recovery room, to get rid of the gas from the colonoscopy exam, all I did was vomit. LOL. I guess not eating for two weeks was not such a good idea, after all.
We all have our bad moments dealing with the clinics and the tests, but somehow we get through them.
Love,
Tex

Joan,
Did you switch to Synthroid because the Armour wasn't working for you, or because your doctor called it an obsolete treatment, and recommended changing to Synthyroid, because it's a much more precise dosage of T4?

OMG! Now that was funny! My very first test was for a barium xray. Now when I got to the hospital for the procedure I was told to put these fizzy little crystals in my mouth with just a wee bit of water. Then I was told that it was going to make me feel and want to belch but I was to hold the sensation down.
Then I was given the chalky barium to drink and was told to more or less chug it down very quickly. Before I even took the first drink I told them that "I can not do this. I have NEVER been able to gulp or chug down any type of drink."
The technician and a doctor said;"Yes, you do it" said the doctor who did not speak English! So I gulped, it went down and it came right back up! LOL
Once I threw up then the doctor finally said;"She can not do this test." DAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Now didn't I tell them that right from the "get go"?
Did I say I was sorry? NO WAY I left the room in tears and left them with my mess to clean up.

When they were doing my barium x-rays, they killed a lot of time, waiting for the stuff to percolate through my gut, and then they finally took a bunch of x-rays. Then they decided to switch machines, and do another series of tests using some other form of imagery. I told them that I didn't think that I could hold that stuff in that long, and needed to go to the bathroom. You know, of course, what they replied to that - "just do your best to hold it in, this won't take long". Well, it did take long, (IMO), and doing your best to "hold it in" when you've got uncontrollable diarrhea, doesn't get the job done. I didn't worry about the mess either, but after the initial D, it took at least two days to get rid of the rest of that stuff, because of the C that the barium causes.
As far as I'm concerned, that test was even less fun than a colonoscopy exam, because not only do you have to go through the same cleanout procedure initially, but getting rid of the barium, later, is a lot harder than getting rid of the air that they pump into you during a colonoscopy exam.

I totally agree Tex:
And it is beyond me why when a patient tells them something they think they KNOW better. It's like a woman going through child birth and having a nurse who's never been pregnant try and tell that she's not ready to push to have her baby. And this is the woman's 3 pregnancy! It would make for humorous reading to put all these stories into a book, we would all take a cut be famous to boot. LOL
Thanks for helping my mood change today so I was at least smiling instead of crying and holding my gut all day. Sure am glad together we got my notification replies figured out or I would have still been setting here thinking I made someone angry with my p & m ing and that I wasn't wanted on this board anymore. My mind set just hasn't been normal lately. Sorry.

I think it was the latter reason for my going on Synthroid.
It was so long ago and far away, I'm not certain.
My thyroid test results had gone so crazy recently that my endocrinologist said maybe I got a bad batch!

Angy,
We have the same problem over here, of course - most doctors claim that gluten sensitivity has absolutely nothing to do with MC, and they insist that you can't be gluten sensitive, unless you're a celiac. <sigh>

Joan,
About a year ago, another member, Lori, (username - Umber), received a refill of her prescription from her pharmacy, (it was not Synthyroid), that was 10,000 times too strong, due to a labeling mistake. She, (and everyone else who took at least one of them), had some pretty serious problems for a while. You can read about it here:
http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewt ... ht=thyroid
This is probably related:

Jodi,
Read what Lori has to say in her post in this thread, where she responded to Barbara's question:
http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewt ... ht=thyroid
Pretty scary, isn't it. As common as thyroid issues are, and as broadly as they affect the human body, doctors don't seem to be particularly good at diagnosing and treating them properly. Hmmmmmmm -that's sorta like MC, isn't it.
