Paging all genetic "double DQ1s"

Post by Polly »

HI!

According to our genetic poll, at least 5 of us are double DQ1s - Gloria, Celia, Kimberly (kimpat), Rick (Carrie), and I. I am interested in all of us comparing notes about our intolerances. It seems to me that we may have the corner on multiple food intolerances, unfortunately. Also, I have seen on the web that we may be more prone to neurological complications, etc. I would be interested in all of the foods or other items (cosmetics, drugs) that each of you has found to be problematic. Maybe it would be fun to see if we could find commonalities in our medical histories.

As for me, I am still in the process of teasing out certain foods, believe it or not. I started this again because of some D I experienced after months of antibiotics for my sinus problems. I am doing a trial without potatoes right now. Also, I am thinking that soybean oil may be a problem, even though most of what I read says that the offending protein in removed during processing. Mostly I am on the paleo (hunter-gatherer) diet - no grains or dairy whatsoever - just animal protein, veggies, fruits, nuts/seeds. Whenever I follow it strictly I feel terrific and have no D.

Hoping to discuss this further to shed some more light on our "special" status.

Love,

Polly

Morning Polly,

Never been test but I have a real strong feeling I fit the category. Intolerances:

Nightshades with the exception of potatoes
Grains
Milk - some cheese and yogurt OK
Citrus
Watermelon (a real horror)
Spinach - lettuce in small amounts sort of tolerate
Mushrooms
Sodas
Tea
Grape Juice and Peach juice
MFS - modified food starch
Red dye
Any facial products containing wheat
Most raw fruit with exception of grapes & pineapple?
Beans have now turned up as a real trigger

I'm relishing a few quiet moments while my four grandchildren are out. Here's a quick response:

eggs
soy
dairy
gluten
legumes
spinach, lettuce

I seem to be doing OK with chocolate, tomatoes, corn and so far, lemons. Will be testing orange juice tomorrow. It appears that we share some, but not all intolerances, so they seem to be individualized.

Note: I failed the orange juice test.

Thanks to all who responded. The number and type of intolerances some of us experience is amazing. It makes me wonder if a lot of the problem could be due to too much zonulin - which opens those gates in the gut and allows too many foreign proteins in (rather than a specific genetic reactions to each individual protein). At least I hope this is the case, because then many of us might be able to take Dr. Fassano's pill and eat whatever we want. Now wouldn't that be something???

Tex, I don't think we need to hold this post any longer - it can drift away into oblivion. I'll post it again when there might be more double DQ1s around to respond.

Thanks.

Love,

Polly

Hi Polly,

You may be on to something with that theory about zonulin. That would certainly explain a lot of puzzling issues. The question is, "are we producing too much zonulin because of a system defect, or because of something that we're eating, (or maybe both)?".
