Calcium issues!!!

Post by angy »

Worried about my level of calcium in my body...I started early menopause for about 2 yrs now,, now Iunderstand that this was possibly due to either gluten and or cc...undiagnosed at the time

Problem is i dont want to start hrt treatment for my bones. Im worried about oesteperosis...However i eat lots of yoghurt, probiotic drinks and cheese. All of the dairy i buy is gf and i dont have problems with it in my gut...the drinks actually help when i have the gurgling and ache in my gut.. but recently my bones and muscles are aching like helll  . My bones are creaking and are very stiff. I am also so tired most of the time and i do take some supplements such as multivitamin with calcium..but not regularly really...
Polly!! was very helpful by informing me that i should take vit d instead of calcium supplements...Iwould like the calcium issue discussed guys...please

Hi Angy!

We meet again!

I didn't mean to imply that you should stop taking calcium supplements (although I do think it may be wise to try to get your calcium from supplements rather than dairy foods) - just wanted to emphasize the importance of vitamin D. For good info on vitamin D check out

www.vitamindcouncil.com

This website is run by a doc who strongly disagrees with the current recommendations of the "experts" about vitamin D requirements - he thinks it should be MUCH higher, and I agree with him!

Also, for more background info on calcium/osteoporosis you can check out 2 articles in the "Links to Good Information Sites" forum, specifically the 9th and 29th ones listed (that is, if I counted properly - LOL).

Happy reading! As you will see, this is an extremely complex issue. Will comment more later. Until then..................

Angy,

I completely agree with Polly about the vitamin D issue. I think vitamin D has long been overlooked as a vital part of our requirements for good health.

I believe these are the articles with the links that Polly is referring to:

ANGY---every year my GP--does a blood test for Vitamin D--and so far the testing has been A-1
I do take calcium with D but never gave much thought to additional D---perhaps will check with GP!!!

And sun for me--even 15 minutes worth is a no-no due to the fact that I have had 2 specks removed---and they were MELANOMA--
So I am checked every 4 months(by Dermatologist) ---
I was very fortunate that she insisted on removing this teeny little spot that I insisted was a FRECKLE--same with 2nd one--

And to add, I am very fair skinned---but did *roast* myself --waaaaaay back--cus it was *cool* to have a tan---but all I ever did was *burn*!!
Take care--stay well--
always enjoy your posts -----

i get the sun a lot when i do my garden...i luv flowers,,,watching them grow and nurturing them...i have a little fairy garden that i enjoy creating for my little neice...so i guess i get loads of d vit then huh!!!

So when U connect the dots---U get ANGY!!!!!!

U have a point there--about docs never *ASK*--some do and some dont---I say that cus my last bone density test showed *not so great* but STABLE!!!!!! so what the heck is STABLE---STABLE GOOD--fair--stable but a bit worse than last test!!! I didnt bother to call ==
One year I got an Xcited call saying *MUCH BETTTER* continue what U are doing--and @ that point I wasnt *DOING*??

Also any of those meds. for Ostero always cause me *acid reflux* and thats not so delightful~~

MY GI had told me--take a NEXIUM night before--the morning of--and the next morning--YET when U read the instructions it says NOT to USE ---
So ya damned if U do and damned it U dont~~~~

By the way luve the Xpression---*give a JOT*
