Got Results From My Ultra Sound

Post by jodibelle352 »

Hello Family:
Had my ultra sound on my thyroid last thursday and received a call today already from my family physician. Was told by Stephanie one of the nurses that there are 2 cystic nodules on the right side that need to be checked out. She said that they had already made an apt. for me to see an Ears, Nose and Throat specialist for the day after tomorrow; Wed. Aug.27th at 2:10p.m.
Decided to make this post before I get anymore hyper than I've already been lately. I don't know what an Ears, Nose and Throat specialist has to do with my thyroid except that the thyroid is near the throat. Dahhhhh!!!!!! And either my family physician really really loves me and has lots and lots of pull to beable to get me into see this specialist in 2 days when normally it would take someone forever to get in.
Like I said, I thought I would at least make this post and get some of my fears off my chest before I turn into a basket case trying to figure out all these "whys" and "how comes".
Does anyone have any thoughts as to my questions. Is this a normal procedure? Am I just a very fortunate person to be seen so soon and am I worrying for nothing?
Sorry to impose but could use some constructive idea's or suggestions.
Love and God Bless:
Jodi

I wish I knew the answer but I'm afraid I don't. I think it's a good thing that you don't have to worry for a long time until you get into the ENT specialist. Maybe, he just happened to have an appointment open.

A friend who worked with me at a small public library in Nebraska has a saying: "Don't borrow trouble." Believe me, I know it's much easier to say than do.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor and don't play one on TV.

hi Jodi----know what!!!!!!
same procedure for me --he asked if I had a THYROID problem---I said *have no idea* --I am here cus my GP felt these growths after Xamining my throat area and detected these nodules-----so he said ENT-
ENT--did biopsey the smaller nodes(but could not reach the larger one???) then said need to see an ENDO to detect if I was hyper=or hypo thyrodism--didnt KNOW I had a PROBLEM--
Saw ENT and she did all the biopseys------and had me go thru all the other testing that was needed--so ENT--was not necessary--thats my opinion--
Cus the ENDO was WHO I NEEDED!!! to determine type of problem and to doctor me--which has been over a year now----

The only thing was that the ENT did take a look see down the throat----and JODI--it is a simple check so --trust me when I say nothing to be frightened about---
Let me know how U do---

PS. dont forget we all go thru *detection* and *solving* of issues in different ways--

Ohhhh Thank You Barb!

So many things have been going through my mind. First all my thyroid labs came back normal/nothing abnormal. Then it was decided by my GP (which Doc is a great GP and truly cares) to have the follow up ultra sound done. Just had it done last thursday, then today I get a call that I'm supose to take my disk with me and that already they have an apt. to see an ENT on Wednesday. It was like WOW!!! Should I be scared or what the heck is going on.
My hubby; David said that probably why it's been scheduled so quickly is because I've been fighting this weight loss issue and not being able to gain any weight back for so long that Doc probably did pull some strings to get these issues addressed a.s.a.p.
I'm just confused because with these nodules on my thyroid you would think my labs would have shown some kind of abnormality.
After reading your reply I'm more calmer and Sweety I truly appreciate what you've shared with me.
Thank You and God Bless:
Jodi
P.S. I will let you know later Wednesday what or if anything the ENT says. My apt. is at 2:10p.m. Michigan time.

Hi Jodi,

Regarding your concerns about the prompt scheduling: I think it's common practice for many specialists to leave blocks of time open in their schedules especially for referrals. Of course some referrals are urgent, but even when they aren't, being able to promptly schedule a patient from a referring doctor, goes a long way toward encouraging that doctor to send other patients their way.

I could be wrong, but I think that referrals are almost always likely to get much shorter waiting times for an appointment, for that reason. It's a professional courtesy, (to the referring doctor), sort of the medical equivalent of the "knowing the right people" thing.

Love,
Tex

Thanks Tex:
That eases my mind tonight a little. Do you happen to know if even with these lesions or cystic nodules on my thyroid is it still possible to have all my blood work on my thyroid show normal/nothing unusual? That's one of the things thats so confusing to me. Barb mentioned everything she's went through but I forgot to ask wether or not if her earlier/ or first set of thyroid blood work came back like mine showing nothing abnormal. If you know the answer to this question I would really appreciate your knowledge in this area.
Love Ya and God Bless:
Jodi
P.S. I'm sorry, I've been so dispondent lately but dealing with way too many things at once, emotionally, financially, physically and with family issues "to boot" I've just been fighting each and everyday just to get my tiny hiney out of bed each day. I am however, trying my best to voice my feelings more often and to try and remember that others have had similar issues and have the assurance I need to keep myself on the "up sweep".

Jodi,

I have no idea which blood test results you are referring to, (or if you even had any tests that related to the thyroid function), but if you did have the relevant tests, and they were normal, then that's a good sign. If your TSH, (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), free T4, and free T3 were all within the normal range, then that's good. The reason it's good, is because some nodules can produce thyroid hormone, (independent from the thyroid gland), and if they do, then this extra production will not be detected by the body's feedback system, which will result in overproduction of thyroid hormone, (hyperthyroidism). If a nodule is malignant, then it is more likely to produce thyroid hormone in this manner, (though, of course, some non-malignant nodules also produce thyroid hormone). Anyway, the point is, normal labs, improve your chances of the nodules being non-malignant, unless I'm confused, here.

Love,
Tex

JODI~~~~~~ my FIRST BLOOD work up came back --using the term abnormal--which determined that I have an OVER-ACTIVE thyroid ( hyper--like running faster than fast!!! Thats how I term it---

Thus, this no doubt was my reason for being so very Lethargic---and I mean like sleeping hours and hours---with no desire to do anything--plus a few other things---forgetting things and if U look up thyroid U can read all the symptoms that can occur--
I also lost my sense of taste and smell  and thats the pits---but I have my Dr.s stumped with that!!! My ENDO--GP and NEURO dont think its from this thyroid condition, yet it all started around the time--this issue was developing???? Being all the other stuff was developing thats why I associate the *senses* with this THYROID stuff!!!??? Who knows~~~~

My blood work ups are all running in the normal range---and she is suggesting that I taper off the meds and see what happens--she said some peoples stay regulated and if things go *amuck* again--then I start all over with the meds. And I really dont think I want to go thru all that again--if the meds are keeping me .in the perfect range-than why screw around and MAYBE start this thyroid to speed up again!!!

I shall see my Endo in a few weeks and it will be discussion time again---cus I had blood work up done 2 weeks ago--and everything is still in the good range~~~

My energy and etc. are still zapped---but like most of us here----stressed all the time with family issues --and just cant get up and out from-under it --certainly makes one feel like they *dragging* all the time-

Looking foward to your update--

luve Barbara

Tex & Barb:
Both of you have been a tremendous help answering my questions. I will make sure Wed. after I get back home I will post what I find out from the ENT. At least with all the feedback I've received I think maybe I'll manage to at least get a sound sleep tonight. I am also going to call and ask my GP what my thyroid labs said about my TSH, free T4 and free T3 said. I certain they can at least give me those results without just giving me a general overall account as to being within normal range.
Thank You and Goodnight.
