GI DOCS LETTER TO MY EMPLOYER
I need to know something guys!!!
last year when i got ill before i was diagnosed with cc. I worked in this clients house (pretty dirty) and every time i was in there, 2 days later i got D..As i have said in a previous post I was sure i contracted pinworm from this guy...I saw these critters for like 8 months. After i took treatment i was ok...then when i entered his house again 2 days later they were back and i had D. Sometimes i would only be in his house once month and again they were back..
Now this guy went on holiday for 5 wks and i was ok...then he returned and again i was in his house and the D came back..
Now i discussed this with my gi doc...and he said wait till we do a biopsy. I said ok..but it took them 8 months to get this done and i was not prepared to feel like crap waiting for the biopsy so i continued to take meds for this..
Did the colonoscopy and biopsy and found no sign of parasites, probably because i anilated them beforehand..
Now my issue is...I have told my employer that i cant work in really dirty houses due to this condition because i feel that i am a weak target for viruses and bugs..and said i was sure i was picking up a parasite from this guy...Now am i vulnerable to infections, viruses and bugs now that i have cc!!!or not
My employer said that because this was an occupational issue she would need to receive confirmation from my gi doc..So i said ok if you have to..do it..
I guess i expected my gi doc to say yes she has cc and has an autoimmune deficiency..and pretty vunerable...am i right or wrong??
Any way today i just received a copy of the letter my gi doc has sent to my employer....here goes...only the important part..
"This lady was diagnosed as having a condition called collagenous colitis, which is not an infection of the bowel. Miss Blair also reported on a number of occasions she noticed some parasites in the bowel and was treating herself for those but we had no evidence from our investigations that she had suffered a parasitic infection.
Collagenous colitis is a non -infective autoimmune diseas that causes inflammatory bowel disease. My assessment therefore is that it is rather unlikely that she has contracted this condition from a person who has received a service from your organisation.
Please can someone explain this to me???

Well, it looks to me as though your GI doc is effectively pulling the rug out from under you. He is simply saying that in his opinion, you have CC, but you did not "contract" it from someone you provided services for as a result of your employment, (which is beside the point, obviously, since you never claimed that, in the first place). IOW, since he himself did not discover any parasitic infections, nor did he treat you for any parasitic infections, he is denying that you ever had any parasitic infections. (It boils down to a semi-sophisticated way of calling you a liar). It's natural for doctors to have an intense dislike for patients who are bold enough to attempt to treat themselves, and I'm sure that's why he is behaving in this way. All the same, he should have his ass kicked, for playing such childish games.
MC is classified as an autoimmune disease. Autoimmune diseases are the result of an overactive immune system, not a weakened immune system. Now, if you were treating the MC by taking an immune system suppressant, such as Prednisone, Entocort, Remicade, Imuran, etc., then yes, you would have a weakened immune system, as a result of the medication. Lialda, however, is a 5-ASA med, not an immune system suppressant.
It is true, however, that people with MC are more vulnerable to infections, simply because their digestive system is abnormal, (usually due to a corrupt population of bacteria in their intestines, and an inability to maintain stable digestive processes. I doubt that most GI docs are even aware of this, though, since most of them aren't even aware that food intolerances even exist, outside of celiac disease.
I'm sorry that your GI doc refuses to help you - he's just one more reason why I have learned not to trust GI docs in general. Far too many of them are asses. On a percentage basis, they have waaaaaaaaay more than their fair share of asses in their ranks.

Sounds to me like your doc is covering his ass (or face if you will). People in the medical profession are so scared of litigation that they shy away from any possible involvement in controversy. Considering the cost of insurance, I think he did what most doctors would have done. That still does not make it acceptable to those of us who are suffering with medical problems.
If given no other viable option, perhaps you could purchase a good facial mask and wear protective clothing with gloves. Hang in there girl!!!!!!!!!

And yes you are so right tex he has made a total ass of me. Im going to find this very difficult to say to my employer he is wrong.....They are going assume oh well!!! hes a proffessional (asshole) doctor and hes right. Hi guys!!! sorry have not been logging n for a while...as you all know life!!! is hectic...anyway..
Went to see my gi doc on friday 19th sept. Showed him the copy of the letter he wrote to my employer and said!! "Ihave this letter doc! that you sent to my employer..and i am very angry. This reply has made me look a total idiot with my employer..He said oh!! let me look at this again..I also said to him that I was not saying that i caught cc from a client in their employment and i was not saying that cc is infectious from me or another person. Why have you said that in your reply..??
He said well!! it was quite a puzzling question that your employer asked me..I said what did they ask you if you dont mind me asking... i dont have a copy of their request for information they sent you..He said angie if you like i will show you the letter but i dont have you case notes with me today...I said it doesnt matter about showing me the letter...i will be speaking to my employeer this week now that i am back from my hols...but anyway fire away!!!
He said that my employer asked him if it was possible that i got infected with cc from a potential client that i work with and is my condition infectious...
I said thats ludicrious...obviously my employer was not listening to me when i had a meeting with them to discuss my condition. So i left the issue about the letter with the doc at that.
Later i spoke to the relevent people who sent the request to my doc!! My words to them were....That letter is "bollocks". Then i said...Why did you write to my doc asking him if i was infectious and did i possibly contract this disease from a client within the organisation..I then said that is not what i said, I said I cannot work with dirty people and dirty houses for fear of picking up a virus or germ..I also said to her my body is taking all its energy to fight the disease and i am vunerable to infections.. I also said my doctor agrees with me 100%. so what is going on here. .She said actually angie we asked him if it was a problem for you to work in dirty houses and what would the impact be for you if you did!!! She also said that if he is saying that i am at risk...he will need to retract his original hypothesis!!
I thought oh my god!!! someones lying here....I was furious it felt like no- one understand a dam thing!!! I wanted to rip all of their heads off in one day!!!
Anyway my doc dropped my asacole down to 2000mg a day. I asked him abour a gf prescription and he said speak to your gp and ask him to help you there. Normally you dont get(as we all know) a script for gf foods unless your a full blown celiac. He said its really down to the doctor to bend the rules a little and get you a prescription. So im still thinking about this and have not yet made an appointment to see my gp. sigh!!!

I'm so sorry, Angy
You waited all of this time for your GI appt to get some clarification and all you got was more frustration.
It would be wonderful if something went smooth and easy once in awhile. Like it's not bad enough dealing with the daily symptoms of this disease.
Sorry you had a bad day
At least you know that we are thinking of you!

Angy,
At least your GI doc sounded a lot more human, (a little more understanding), about your situation. Still, he could have been the one to "bend the rules", and write you a prescription for GF food, rather than refusing to do it, and telling you to ask your GP to do it.
It would be very interesting to see what that letter from your employer actually said, wouldn't it. Obviously, as you pointed out, someone is lying.

I think you're right - he never expected to be confronted about it. When I picture him in my mind's eye, I "see" the Grinch That Stole Christmas, as he sits there with a fake smile on his face, calmly lying to little Cindy Lou Who, about why he took all the Christmas decorations and presents.Angy wrote:I think he felt stupid when i hit him with it and yes he was ok i guess but he could still be lying..
