I wish that surgeon had told me that due to the C-menting of L1---I would continue to have bouts of megga constipation due to the fact that L1 controls(if I use the right wording) the area of constipation--*D*--urinary issues and a few other working parts of that juncture!! cus since I have had this done *to be blunt* Iam lucky if I shi* out a few hard turds---and all the stuff I have taken--has assisted me here and there---I thought I was getting lucky with the prunes but they in turn caused me *reflux* anyway---

Friday I had to go to my chiropractor cus I was suffering with pain stemming from the back of my neck--down its side --into my shoulder blade--couldnt turn my neck nor bend head down--sleeping was a horror so I gave in and went to see Lance--
lst. thing---DO NOT MOVE MY CEMENT--of course he laughed--
All he did was place his thumb smack on the area of my shoulder blade and I *yelled* thats it!!
Of course he said---thats why I am a chirpractor--appears my NERVE has been irritated--naturally he had to adjust the whole body-----and did say---countin from the butt up---1-2-3-4-5- and then after that starts the L1 back up to ya neck---so says he *I know how to work on U*
I trust Lance with every inch of my body cus I have seen him for many years----NOWWWWWWW comes the issue---Friday night--Saturday and today has been like OLD TIMES--off the bowl --walk out of the bathroom and then do a turn around and hit the bowl agan--

Soooo--I am going to speak with Lance and tell him about this damn c-ment bounding me up cus I cant keep using diruretics--suppositories etc. which dont do a hell of alot---
Miralax is the worse--all it does is blow me up and then I sit push --plant my feet into the toilet floor and pray---as I told U this once before!!!

I am thankful for the procedure which saved any added spinal issues but this being bound up is a *crappy* issue!!!

When I first called Dr.Fletchman--who did the surgery--he got on the phone and said---**CONSTIPATED**
And I replied * yup--tough shittin out a BRICK*

My Colonoscopy showed great-

thanks if U read this--and have any suggestions
Barbara

Barbara,

I'm sorry that this has become such a serious problem. The spine is an incredibly complex structure, and apparently many doctors don't realize that modifying it can cause a myriad of other problems. The source of the problem is almost always modifications that protrude outside the original boundaries of the spine. In your case, your problems, (nerve pain, C, etc.), are probably due to adhesive that leaked outside of it's intended target. (The C might be due to pressure on a nerve, for example). Or, it might be due to extraneous bone growth, if the material injected into your spine was a biologically engineered liquid protein called "Infuse Bone Graft", sold by Medtronics, for use in spinal fusion procedures to repair and stabilize damaged disks, and to correct other spinal problems.

Three days ago, the Wall Street Journal just happened to run a front-page article titled, Medtronic Treatment Linked To Spinal-Surgery Problems. Now, this is not how you were treated, but it is very, very similar, in some ways, and it's possible that the "Infuse Bone Graft" described in the article might have been used for your procedure. I believe that you told us that "epoxy" was used, if I remember correctly, but I wonder if the doctor was actually referring to this "Infuse Bone Graft" material, instead.

The Medtronic treatment involves the implanting of a small metal cage between the vertebrae, that contains a sponge-like pad that is saturated with "Infuse Bone Graft". The idea is that the liquid promotes bone growth, resulting in spinal fusion. Problems arise when new bone grows outside the spine, and puts pressure on nerves, and whatever else might be in close proximity. Most of the problems that have occurred, have come about because of off-label use. Unfortunately, off-label use seems to be very popular, and if your surgeon did indeed use Infuse Bone Graft to repair your fractured vertebrae, that would have been an off-label use, I believe.

Remember though, I have no idea what was actually used during your procedure - I'm just telling you what could have happened if it was used. If it was used in your procedure, obviously, the surgeon did not use the metal cage and sponge that's part of the on-label treatment - instead, he would have simply injected the Infuse Bone Graft material into the cavities where your vertebrae were fractured.

I can't reproduce the article here, due to copyright restrictions, and you can't read the article online, unless you have a WSJ subscription, but I will PM you a copy of the article, along with an image that shows how the Medtronic treatment is used, (the on-label treatment, that is).

thanks Galahad----from what I saw he injected --not a metal cage---but it appeared to look like a --well gotta say a condom  which then inflated and then he injected the cement into this -( and I use the word Cement) cus I cant remember the Xact terminology of the (ingrediant)
I even think U sent me a picture of the procedure????

I know when I went to my neuro, for a check=up, their Xray showed a good shot and he was very happy with the turn out---

I am going to do some searching and find the Xact terminology of this procedure!!!!

I figured the constipation would ease up--

Will keep the PM too and go over that!!!!

As usual---U fix one thing and something else *screams* FIX ME TOO!!!

Yep, that's it. Actually, though, the balloon is inflated with air, to return the collapsed vertebra to it's original shape, and bone cement is injected into the cavity that is created when the two halves of the vertebra are pushed back to their original positions by the balloon. According to this site, leakage occurs in about 10% of cases:

Barbara,

You're most welcome, of course.

That's pretty much what the GI doc told me just before my colonoscopy - that I wouldn't feel a thing, but he would be able to talk to me, and I wouldn't remember any of it afterwards. In fact, I felt "everything", and I can still remember virtually every detail, including what both of us said, and watching the entire exam on the monitor. Medicine is far from a perfect science.

:pigtail: Hi Barb!

Now this just about tops all! Here we have all kinds of poop! But you Sweety have topped the list with C-ment shi*! I don't think I would be allowing anyone in the medical profession to use that on me again. As it is not funny when the person suffering through this pain is "yourself". I'm not sure if there's anything else they could have used but I would be letting them know it AIN'T happening a second time.

Love and God Bless:
Jodi

Maybe its UC maybe its MC? Who knows at this point, but at least I know my intollerances now... so heres to the road to healing!
