Based on the latest data, Ike is forecast to make landfall a couple hundred miles southeast of where I live, (roughly 325 kilometers), and then curve northward, which will cause the eye to pass very close to us, probably just west of where I live. We will see some wind, and probably a lot of rain, since we will be on the wet side of it, but due to the distance it will have to travel over land, it should be down to tropical storm strength by the time it passes through here. I'll bet that Luce, (in Houston), has already evacuated, since she will need to get her mother to safety. If I recall correctly, Geargirl lives in Austin, so she will probably see more wind and rain than I will, since Austin is about 50 miles closer to where it will make landfall. Oma will probably be on the west side of the storm as it heads north, (she lives NW of me), so she will probably see less wind and rain, but, of course, we can't really be sure where the path will be, until the last minute.
We'll batten down the hatches, as they say, but this far inland, it shouldn't be a serious problem, (we hope).

Hmmmmmm. The hurricane situation doesn't look quite as optimistic here, as it did earlier. Now they're projecting it to track right on top of us, (within four or five miles, from the eye), and they're forecasting peak wind speeds of 80 to 85 mph, (130 to 135 km/h), for Saturday afternoon through much of Sunday morning. That's a long time to be subjected to winds like that, and we'll probably have some damage, at that rate. If we're lucky, we won't lose power, but there's a very good chance that we will. I'm just glad that the harvest was early this year, so the crops are all out of the fields, around here. That kind of wind would wipe them out.
Since we're right in the track of the eye, peak wind speeds are predicted to be higher here, than they will be on the coast at Houston, Corpus Cristi, and Galveston. Of course, maybe it will change course before it gets here.

Probably can't do anything to help other than pray, but may go donate blood later today. Amarillo was in line to receive evacuees from the Brownsville are. City officials have been asked to be prepared for awhile just in case.
Will they accept blood donations from someone with an IBD? I was thinking that someone had mentioned that they were turned down for that reason, but I haven't actually looked into it myself.
There are quite a few evacuees moving in around here, also, and of course, a lot of them are passing through, headed toward Waco and the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. This morning, though, things are looking a lot better here in Central Texas, as the projected landfall continues to be shifted northward along the coast. Now they're predicting landfall between Houston and Galveston. If that happens, the storm will track several counties east of us, and the piney woods of East Texas will help to decelerate the winds, and we'll be on the dry side of it, so we should get a little less wind, and a lot less rain than was predicted earlier.
As often as they're changing the predicted landfall, there's no tellin' where it will hit, at this point. We'll just have to wait and see.

It's possible that the list they go by may not even classify MC as an IBD, even though it clearly is, by definition. Joan had a long running argument, a few weeks ago, with a consumer rep from the American Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, and a supposed Vice President of Research, who claimed that MC was not an IBD. They finally admitted that yes, it is an IBD, but up until this point, they hadn't considered doing any research into the disease. IOW, they were trying to ignore it. LOL.
Lowell? That one completely bypassed us. I hope you get enough rain to do some good. Ike may be too far east to bring you any rain, but who knows?

It does indeed appear that you may get just as much rain as we will - possibly more.
That 40 mph wind prediction kind of sucks, though - I was still hoping that we might get off that easy, but if it's gonna blow that hard up there, it won't exactly be whistling "Dixie" when it rolls through here, 'cause it has to travel over 400 miles to get from here to there. <sigh>
We're hoping for rain, though, since our rain gauge totals have been way short, all year long. If we had a choice, of course I'd prefer to just pass on the whole routine, because of the wind, but . . .

The weather service here is still saying a bunch of rain will be coming, and we have already had an inch or two today already, but they are now saying that the winds are supposed to be down to 30 mph when it comes through here, hope your winds are not as bad as they think.....we get 30-40 mph winds here all the time during the spring....at least we are used to it....

Maybe it will dry out somewhat tomorrow and Saturday, so that flooding won't be much of a problem for you. We're plenty dry here, so we're hoping for at least an inch or two.
You're right, even 50 mph winds that accompany thunderstorms in the spring are usually not a serious problem, (as long as you're not a tree, with weak branches, LOL) - if it gets much higher, though, and blows for 10 or 15 hours at that rate, things begin to shake apart. IOW, how long it lingers, will surely matter. I'm hoping it will be moving right along when it comes through here, (in a hurry to get to Oklahoma, doncha know).
