Need your review and assistance

Mornin' Friends,

I finally got around to moving the commonly-used abbreviations that Marsha began compiling into the Welcome to Newbies Forum. Please take a look at it and let me know of other abbreviations that we should add. Thanks.

Love,

Polly

Hi Polly. You did a GREAT job with the commonly-used abbreviations! Very good order and I'm glad you placed "Norman" near the top as it took me a while to figure that one out when I first joined. Maybe add these: PCP (Primary Care Physician) and GI (Gastrointestinal, often used to indicate a person's Gastroentestinal doctor).

Love,
Carrie

I don't know about anyone else, but when I first started doing this it took me a while to figure out what SIL (sister-in-law), DIL (daughter-in-law), MIL (mother-in-law), and so forth were.

Very good, Polly. It's even funny!

Hi Polly,

That looks great. Since some of us are prone to using these once in a while, you might add WAG and WAEG to the list, also.

How about FYI and YMMV?

Don't feel bad Shirley - I didn't have a WAG or even a WAEG either! LOL

I agree - it looks great! The last thing newbies need to feel is confused and left-out, so knowing we thought enough about them to post those abbreviations should make them feel welcomed! Do you want to add "FWIW" and "BBIAB"? I actually haven't seen those used much on this board, but I do on others, so your call.

And do we need "WTF", or are we keeping this censored? :noevil:

Well, I've just incorporated the suggestions made before before Sue's post. Also added Potty People, which Sally had suggested in response to Marsha's original post.

Sue, I don't know what BBIAB is? Help!

I could list WTF like this:

WTF = :censored:

What does everyone think???

Tessa, I can imagine how difficult it must be to figure out abbreviations in another language - especially since some are idiomatic. Are there specific ones you have seen that you have not understood? Please let me know.

Thanks for your help.

Love,

Polly

Welp, you asked, so here goes. (Deep breath)

Let's not get carried away using too many abbreviations, ok. Also, if we get too colorful around here, we won't be taken too seriously, IMHO Hahaha! No, seriously.

If we're going to do poops, what about "pencil poops?" Also, did you realize that you forgot your favorite of all our expressions -- hint: gas elimination?

Forgot -- did "floaters" and "sinkers" make the list?

There were lots of expressions back on the old board that really "said it," weren't there?!
Maybe some of the other members will think of more of these.

Great job -- useful and humorous!

Yours, Luce

BBIAB = be back in a bit.

I love your "censored" one, but if none of us use "WTF" then we don't have to worry about explaining what it means, so it's your decision whether or not we even bother to list it.

Luce, I don't think we're going to "use" too many abbreviations, it's just that we wanted to list as many as we could in the "help" section in case someone wants to look one up. Heck, you never know - a lot of people who come to the board may be very new to forums and postings..... it might take something as serious as MC to get some people internet-literate so why not make their first experience an easy and educational one.
