Has Anyone Heard Anything From Friends In Texas?

Post by jodibelle352 »

Has anyone heard anything from Tex, Oma or anyone from Texas? I recieved this e-mail from my niece last night just before IKE hit the Houston area:Pix number 3 is of our house! We were outside a mere 5 minutes taking pix and video when it got dark very quickly! I'm making a video of IKE, too. That outta be fun! lol We have taped up our windows with the exception of the only south window we have. We boarded that one. I expect we'll lose power within a couple of hours. Ike should be hitting Houston around 10 p.m. tonight. We're only about 18 miles north east of Houston. So, keep us in your prayers. ya know, I gotta admit, I'm not to skeered of much but Ike is skeering the bajeebee's outta me. Hugs to all....
I'm also showing the photo's she took before it hit.

My niece lives in Humble, Texas more known as Umble,Texas LOL
Would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about how any of our family and friends have weathered Ike.

Jodi

Jodi,

I posted a few comments about conditions where I live in this thread:

http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8360

but we are just beginning to feel the effects of the outer bands of the storm. The eye will pass east of us.

Humble probably had a pretty rough night, and I'm sure that most of that area will probably be without power for a few days, unless they are one of the lucky ones who are near the origins of the power grid. They probably had peak wind speeds around 100 mph, and possibly slightly higher, but the storm should be winding down by now in that area, IOW, mostly rain, with possibly tropical storm winds. It will be hot and sultry today and tomorrow, without air conditioning, but by Monday, a norther is predicted to cool the temps way down, and dry down the humidity, so it won't feel near so unpleasant without air conditioning. They are far enough away from the coast that they shouldn't have had any problems with storm surges.

The problems with hurricanes that make landfall during the night, is that you can't see what's happening. The eye didn't make landfall until after 2 am, so things were probably at their worst around Humble about 3 or so this morning. I'm sure they didn't get much sleep, if any.

Love,
Tex

Thank You so much Tex, I know there's nothing any of us can do but keep you all in our prayers. As you know, David and I have a very close relationship with LuAnn and her husband Len. I've got to calm down but some videos we've seen from the Houston area are very disturbing and already my gut is talking to me with nasty sounds and I just wish they were back here in Michigan with us.
What I have heard is that it could be a couple weeks if not more before power is restored, I just hope they are one of the lucky ones who are close to the grid.
Once again, thank you so much and I love you for all you support.

Joan,

I'm feeling a bit better this morning, but I still have a way to go before I feel like kicking very high. LOL.

So far, not much has happened here - we're just beginning to feel the effects. Whatever is going to happen should unfold during the next 5 or 6 hours, or so. The winds are still surprisingly light - only about 20 mph, with gusts to 30. We keep waiting for the other shoe to fall, so to speak. LOL.
