Finally Got A Call From My Niece In Humble, Texas
I would like to thank everyone for their love and support and all information I've received about Hurricane IKE!
LuAnn was finally able to get ahold of through a cell phone call as they have NO power and have NO idea when it will be restored. Both LuAnn and her husband; Len weathered through ok. They have damage to the privacy fence but no damage to their home. Yeah!!!!! She said that the eye of the storm hit at about 4a.m this morning and was really scarry but they held tightly to each other and their Shtzu; Cleo J for dear life and made it through without any major problems except for the high winds and torential rains. As Tex explained to me earlier and LuAnn confirmed the heat and humidity is making things uncomfortable but they are managing well by kerosine lamps and are making their meals on the bbq grill. LOL
Thank You for all your prayers. LuAnn said she has more photo's she took while the storm was going through/over and once she gets power back she's going to send what she took. Will pass them on to all of you here when I receive them.
Thank You Again!
Love and God Bless:

May God and All His Angels, watchover, protect and guide you "One Day At A Time".
Jodi,
Shirley,
It was a non-event when it passed by us. Apparently Ike's area of major influence was narrower than the weather experts believed, after it got inland a ways, because our max wind gusts never exceeded 35 mph, and we received only two hundredths of an inch of rain, (they were predicting gusts to 60, and 2 to 4 inches of rain - the day before landfall, they were predicting higher winds, and 5 to 10 inches of rain).
Central Texas is having a drought, and when Central Texas is in a drought, even hurricanes don't always bring rain. I've lost count, but I'm pretty sure we've had at least three or four hurricanes and a tropical storm or two hit the state this year, but the only significant rain here, from any of them, was about half an inch from a tropical storm. Coastal areas, obviously, have been getting a lot of rain from these storms, and still are.
Love,
Tex

WoW, Tex, you really are in a "no rain" situation when even a hurricane doesn't bring any............. I really feel for you and your neighbors.
We had 1/2 inch on Sat and it was needed even though we have had occasional rains all summer. I can remember when it didn't rain all summer and it was pretty bad.
I've been watching The Weather Channel a lot the last couple of months and it appeared that Florida (Vero Beach area) was getting lots of rain but a friend down there called yesterday and she said that other than the 2 tropical storms that tracked nearby there hasn't been any. Apparently if there are thunderstorms "in the area" they can just make half the state "green" on the weather map. HaHa
My neighbor has informed me that I'm going to need to hire someone to clean up and weed my flower beds. I knew that they'd be pretty bad by the time I got back but not sure about someone else doing the work. I imagine by the time I found someone and they got around to doing the work I could probably be at least half done with it. HaHa
My son (Mike) is supposed to be leaving this AM for the drive up from Pensacola and I'm pretty sure he is or he would have called yesterday to let me know. I didn't want to call and interrupt his last day with Caren. He will be here about 6 weeks and I really appreciate her being willing for him to be here that long. Of course, he plans to archery hunt a good bit while he is here also so it's not JUST for me but he is coming 2 weeks early just to help me with some things and do some work on the barn.
Well, I've become quite "chatty" this morning. Hope you are feeling a lot better today. I am sorry you have been having a rough time of it lately.

Hi Shirley,
That's really great that Mike will be able to spend that much time with you. He should be able to get a lot of things done in that time. I'm sure he'll be ready for the relaxing break that bowhunting provides, if he works on the barn, and various other projects for two weeks first.
Maybe an early frost will take care of the weeds in your flower beds in Florida. Oh, that's right - it doesn't freeze in Florida. Oh well, they can wait for awhile.
I'm glad that you're feeling "chatty" today. It's nice to picture you relaxing a bit, and enjoying the anticipation of Mike's arrival. And thanks, yes, I'm feeling a lot better today. I don't feel like doing much yet, but at least I'm out and about, and tackling a few minor projects.
I hope you have a great week - I'm sure that Mike's presence will be the catalyst that helps to bring that about.
Love,
Tex
