Hi everyone!!

Post by G'ma Mary »

Hi all;

It's been a few years, but here I am back! Let me update those who have been here for a while and know me, and introduce myself to those who don't know me.

I was diagnosed with MC, LC type in Jan '02. After reading here, I decided to go GF, and first began that in Aug '02 (yes, I'm slow!). Within 3 months time, I was symptom free.

I stayed with this group and learned from all the others as well as sharing my own new findings. Then, as life changed, I began doing other things, and evenutally was not logging on here at all. I had a routine colonoscopy in March this year and the dr found no sign of MC and no other problems at all!!

Well, last week on Thurs I had to jump out of the shower before I had time to finish so I could have diarrhea. I'm talking that old pure liquid stuff I haven't seen in years! I had had no problems overnight and felt fine when I woke up. However, after that first D, I vomited and had one more D before leaving for work (1 hr time span). By the time I got to work, I could hardly walk, I felt so weak. I walked in and told the Principal I was going home, and she told me how bad I looked (though in a kind way!) I came home, went to bed and slept all day. Woke up at 3PM having had no further D or V, so I told myself how stupid I was because I was sure I wouldn't sleep at all that night. However, by 10PM I could hardly keep my eyes open! I had not eaten all day, so ate some plain brown rice sometime before 10 and it settled fine. I went to bed and slept all night. So, my thinking was I got a "bug" or something. Fri I went on a BRAT Diet all day and had no BM's at all. Felt fine all day!

On Sat, I began eating things I know are easy for me, but by Sat afternoon I felt like I did 6 yrs ago - liq D! I had it 4 more times Sat, several times Sun, and on Mon I called my GI. I had such bad cramping and bloating on Mon I could hardly stand it. Well, today I have not changed since Mon, and I have an appointment tomorrow with my GI.

Just thought I'd check back in and say "hi". I'll come back tomorrow and let you all know what the GI says!

Love to all here!

I know a few of us have had a little bug here and there--- I had a running rapids 4/5 days 0f *D* but I attribute that to the adjustment from my Chiropractor-

He says NO/I say YES!!!

Hi G'ma Mary,

Welcome back. I'm sorry to hear about those symptoms - we always fear the worst, when something like that happens. It still might be a virus, though - I just got over one, (I think), that lasted for about four days. I only had one session of D, though, and the D was just in time to save me from vomiting, so I came out pretty lucky. A lot of people are sick, here in Central Texas - kind of unusual, for this time of year.

Thanks for updating us, and I hope you're feeling much better by tomorrow.

Love,
Tex

Hi Mary,

I got my MC under control about the same time you did...September 02. I didn't go gluten free (and not nearly completely gf) until March 03. I've been much better about sticking to the diet, and have been doing well. But I started a flare in July. It's mostly better, but not quite 100 percent yet.

As much as it's no fun to be sick, I hope its a virus for you and that it takes its leave soon.

Good to hear from you!!! However, I wish you weren't having the problems. I hope it will be short lived but I can certainly understand how you must feel about having those symptoms again. Really scary.

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks for all the well wishers and the info.

Saw the GI today. He said it could be the MC, but he thinks possibly some bacterial infection or maybe even some parasitic type problem. I have to collect stools for testing and we should know more by Mon or Tue. I hate having to collect specimens - playing in my own poop is just not my thing! But, if it'll give him info that may help me, that part's good!

Not sure at this point if it is good news or not, but I am feeling much better tonight! No D since this AM, but felt crappy all day until about 6PM. Maybe it'll pass without the tests, or maybe I will get the tests done and have results soon.

I'll be checking in periodically now that I decided to come back, and I'll also keep you posted on what I learn and how I feel.

Blessings to all!

Hmmmmmmmm. I wonder why he didn't suspect the most obvious - a virus. He named off just about every other possibility.

Regardless, I hope that by today, you're feeling so well that it will be a moot point.

Hi G'ma Mary! It's great to see you back. Bummer about the symptoms returning - here's to hoping that it is just a virus or bug and you're well on your way to recovery very soon!

Glad to have you around again - don't stay gone too long!

Love,
Mars

Hi again;

First, to respond to your comment, Tex - he did address the virus issue and said he believed it would have resolved itself within the week if it was viral.

Now, to the latest. I am feeling right now like a sick kid! I went to the dr feeling awful, he ordered stool specimens, and now I'm blocked up and can't poop!! I haven't had a BM since the liquid one the morning of my dr visit! No cramping, no abd pain, I'm eating anything (gluten free!) without problems. I'm not sure what to think! Well, I guess I could think it was viral and resolved itself.

I'll keep in touch.

Your doc is pretty much right about it resolving within a week if it's a virus, except that I felt fine within a week, but just like you, I had D one time, (about the second or third day), and then nothing after that, for, (I'm thinking), at least 4 or 5, days, and then one morning, I cleaned out with a big mix of D and whatever. Since then, I've had minor D off and on, but I feel just fine. IOW, with this virus, you feel OK within a week, but it takes much longer for the GI tract to get straightened out again. At least that's my impression.

I'm on my tenth day, today - feel great, but still having minor D. Also, I have to say that the GI symptoms that I've had with this are pretty much identical to a typical MC reaction, except that it has been centered around C, much more than D, until here at the final stages. The aches, pains, brain fog, gut gurgling, etc., have pretty much exactly matched my reactions from years ago, before I adopted the diet.
