GFCF Birth Contol pill ?

Post by suzil »

Can anyone help with a suggestion? I am still digging for info when I can & have my friendly pharmacist trying to help too. I am finding that a CF distinction for any BC pill is eluding me! My daughter needs to continue them for PCOS.

I did read somewhere that the casein in the ingredient "lactose monohydrate" might not be a problem, but not from a source that looked especially reliable.
Thanks-
Sue

Sue,

I doubt that you will find a gluten-free, casein-free BC pill on the market. The solution is to locate a compounding pharmacy, and have them custom formulate the prescription for your daughter. If you can't locate one near you, there are many that will provide service over the internet.

Your daughter's doctor will have to write a prescription for a compounded formulation that specifies that the compound must contain no gluten, and no casein, (and anything else that you wish to exclude). This can be done with any medication, of course, because the allergens are almost always in the inert ingredients, (not the active ingredients). Only certain pharmacies are compounding pharmacies, of course, and they are usually independent pharmacies, that have been around for a while, (not the big chains).
