My trip to the doctor
Tuesday about 2:30 I just couldn't talk anymore. Mike has been sick all week with similar symptons. I had been feeling a bit under te weather Suday and Monday, but nothing to worry about The Tuesday afternoon I had a scratchy throat and couldn't breathe. Next day I went to the doctor, she was on vacation so te Nurse practitioner saw me, a great person. She said there was no air comng thru my brochial tubes and gave me a breathing treatment and a shot of steroid. Then A Px for augmenten and tessalon for coughing. She said you WILL stay home until Friday.
I really likrd the nurse and the pa so when my doc is out I have a back up. I have seen alot of Pa's and think they are great.
So I haven't been here for awhile, haven't felt good.
My Boss is real sweet about missing so he told me to get well and he'd see me friday. I will work saturday part of the day to make up some time.
Love Oma

Oma,
I hope that the treatment works, and you're already feeling a lot better. Augmenten is the antibiotic with the worst track record for causing C. diff infections, so please stay away from all hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, doctors and nurses, and anyone else who might be carrying C. diff, for at least a couple of weeks after you stop taking it. Taking a good probiotic, or Danactive, beginning right after you take the last dose of Augmenten, would probably be a very good idea, too, to help reduce the risk of developing C. diff, while you are vulnerable.
Take care of yourself.
Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks Tex, exactly what is C.diff? I already have some danactive in the Icebox I keep it as a regular. I try to stay out of hospitals and doctors as much as I can. The treatment helped to open the pipes up good. Mad me a bit jetery but it didn't last long.

illness
Hi Oma, so sorry to hear you are sick again. I hope you give yourself time to heal properly before going back to work. You sound like my daughter. She has had a very serious and painful sinus and ear infection since Sunday...running a high temp...and all she can think about is getting back to work. I realize when economices come into play you sometimes have to jump the gun a little but please be careful. Love, Carol

Oma,
C. diff stands for Clostridium difficile, which is one of many healthcare-associated infections — IOW, illnesses that you may acquire during a stay, (or even in a short visit), in a hospital or longterm care facility. The problem is that in recent years, the infections have reached epidemic proportions in hospitals and nursing homes around the world. C. diff is one of the most widespread and potentially serious of these illnesses. It's caused by infection due to exposure to the C. diff bacteria, and most cases occur within about two weeks after the use of a broad-spectrum, oral antibiotic, such as augmenten, though various other antibiotics also carry some risk of creating conditions favorable to infection.
C. difficile bacteria are everywhere — in soil, air, water, human and animal feces, and on most surfaces, (especially in hospital and nursing home settings). Many medical workers, including doctors and nurses, carry them, (but are not affected by them). Normally, the bacteria don't create any problems until they grow into abnormally large numbers in the intestinal tract of people, (usually after taking antibiotics or other antimicrobial drugs). Symptoms can range from diarrhea to life-threatening inflammations of the colon, (toxic megacolon). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year in the United States alone, C. diff is responsible for tens of thousands of cases of diarrhea, and at least 5,000 deaths, and the problem is getting worse in a hurry, because many of the most recent cases are resistant to treatment, IOW, they are becoming more difficult to control with the antibiotics that we have available to treat them.
I'll try to write a post with some more facts about C. diff within the next few days, because I really believe that it is rapidly becoming one of the most serious threats, (if not the most serious threat), to our future health, (and maybe even our survival), if we are unlucky enough to develop a severe case.
Love,
Tex
