ALT score
I was making a copy of the blood work that I got from the "doc in a box" to give to my regular doc this afternoon and noticed the ALT score was above the norm. DH said the gal who gave them to him said the doctor said it was OK given my age! Mine says H65, norm says 0-50.
I thought I was being so careful eating yesterday so I can make it to my appointment............didn't matter. Now I'm taking Pepto.

Joan,
ALT is usually used to screen for liver damage, (though it can also indicate injury to other organs), but at that low level, (especially if your AST level was normal), it probably doesn't mean anything. Readings need to be say, 2 to 20 times normal, to indicate a significant amount of damage. Also, that reading fluctuates during the day, and can be influenced by certain meds, such as barbiturates, narcotics, and even aspirin, (or other meds containing salicylates).
Good luck with the appointment.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I went to "doc in the box" because of nausea. He said there could be 3,500 reasons but, by George, I think I found the real one accidently.
"People with collagenous colitis and lymphocytic colitis may also experience:
Abdominal pain or cramps
Abdominal bloating (distention)
Modest weight loss
Nausea
Fecal incontinence
Dehydration"

Hi,
Sometimes liver enzymes will be elevated in the aftermath of those things they put in one's IV so the doc can do the colonoscopy. I had a couple of them elevated, but they slowly came back down to normal after a couple more blood checks.
I'm just now returning to the board after evacuating a hurricane, so don't know how recent your colonoscopy or possibly another anesthesia may have been. Just thought I'd post this idea, just in case it applies.
Yours, Luce
