Sunburn

Post by Mars »

I received a pretty bad sunburn on Monday. I was extremely red but no blisters so far (crossing my fingers!)

Problem is...I am now itching and breaking out in a rash. Does anyone have a homemade remedy to stop this? I have been using aloe lotion but the itching is real bad today and the rash just started this evening.

Doesn't help I have developed a headache that won't go away and now my neck is stiff.

Thanks for any help...this is irritating!!!!!

Yikes Margie - ouch! My mother always swore by this to help a sunburn: take a hot shower with Lifebuoy Deoderant Soap. The soap had to be Lifebuoy. Maybe it's worth a try for you.

It's been years since I've gotten sunburned becuase when I was in my 30's I started to get skn rashes if I stayed in the sun for more than 1/2 hour or so. It was itchy with tiny red bumps. I finally gave up sunbathing although I do miss that healthy look one gets from a tan (and my skin is very light).

Please take care and I hope you feel better. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Love,
Carrie

There are lots of remedies...my husband told me this one...now don't laugh or go Yuck until you try it........preperation-H....yep! we use it for burns in the kitchen also. It stops the pain faster than anything I have tried. As kids we used vinager, noxema, aloe Vera...the list goes on....but my favorite now is Prep-H. Love Oma

OUCH!! Mars,

Hope you find something that works for you. I'd try the Prep H or anything else when I'm in that shape.

Margie,

I'm wondering if you have something besides a sunburn? The stiff neck concerns me. I've had rashes from the sun before, but they don't itch while the sunburn still burns.

Were you in the woods? Did you get poison ivy? How about the very slim chance that you were bitten by a tick and are getting lyme's disease? You have many of the symptoms. I'm not trying to scare you! It's just something to think about.

My mother used to make up a paste of vinegar and baking soda. After it quit fizzing she would spread it on my sunburn. It hurt like an SOB going on, but it sure took the sting out.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I tried Preparation H, vinegar, aloe based product, etc. I was burned last Monday and it took until this Saturday for me to be 3/4 "normal" again!

I went to Family Dollar and found a lotion that is Aloe lotion for $1.00 and it worked better than anything else! Figures.

I usually tan the first time out within minutes due to the olive complection but the sun was HOT and I was in the pool and didn't notice that I was burning. Kind of made my vacation a little (Lot) uncomfortable!

I'm tan now but have a rash in areas. I think it is somewhat of a sun poisoning. I also am peeling on my shoulders!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful 4th of July! We've seen fireworks and been to a couple of street fairs.

I work until noon Tuesday thru Friday so that won't be so bad. I picked the wrong week for vacation and my boss wouldn't let me change (I guess he can't do without me or something - figures). Larry's shop is on shut-down this week. Boss did compromise and let me work 1/2 days. Guess I can't complain!

Enjoy your holiday!
