What do you recommend? Is Amdro OK or is there something better?
I live in Alabama and I hate them..........

Hi. Imported Fire Ants are non-native aggressive ant species common in the south. They are very agressive and displace native ants, and can destroy herds of cows and other animals as well.
I have not studied them since grad. school 22 years ago so I am not up on the latest treatments. I know at the time that Amdro was the common thing used. I think it still is but i am not positive. I have mostly just worked on invasive species of insects in Vermont and NH for the past 22 years.
I did enjoy my grad days with fire ants though, they were fascinating.

Those nasty little buggers got on DH feet while he was helping mulch at my sister's in Florida!
My! Oh! My! The symptoms from them. They start out as red spots, then blister, then pus up and the bites last for months! Jack had a heck of a time treating the bites!
My nephew thru marriage actually had an allergic reaction to the bites and swelled up from head to toe and ended up hospitalized from them.
I don't know what benefit they are to our environment, but sure could do without them.

The only good thing about them is that since they're not native, if by some miracle their numbers should ever dwindle to virtually nothing, the government can't declare them an endangered species, and waste our money trying to protect them.
