Hi All,
There is a lost seven year old kid in the next town. He's been missing since Friday night. He pushed his bed under his window and ran away. He's ADHD and bipolar.
I volunteered all day. It was frustrating. The first group I went out with was a bunch of generous souls who were not prepared to walk through the woods. When we got to woods, they skirted them and went back to the street. Only three of us actually searched. The rest walked at a normal pace and sat waiting for us three.
The second group was to head east through woods. The hamm radio guy was 65, and he didn't look in shape. Well, while I was checking deer blinds and such, I found him and another man headed northwest. They were obviously lost. I ended up leading them out of the woods and I wasn't sure if the radio guy was going to make it.
I wonder if I'm just being bitchy. Everyone there was kind to come out and help. I just feel like the areas that my group was supposed to search really weren't.

What a way to spend your holiday. No, you aren't being bitchy. LOL. Everyone wants to help in a situation like that, but the problem is, a lot of people aren't qualified to help, and the less qualified they are, the less likely they seem to be, to recognize their shortcomings. I guess that's just human nature. At least you were able to "rescue" a couple of the "rescuers".
People who have never been on any serious searches, tend to view them as noble gestures, without realizing that one has to get down and dirty, to actually accomplish something worthwhile.

Jean, hopefully, the boy will be found at a friend's house.
We just had an Amber alert recently in which a little 11 yr old had claimed to be snatched by three young men from her own porch early one morning. She had called from her cell phone to give this information.
Think the police confronted the child at some point on the phone as something hadn't rung true to what she was telling them. That was when the child told the truth.
What happened was that she knew her folks weren't going to let her go visit a friend, so she decided to just sneak away to the friend's house. Mom of the friend apparently thought she was visiting with the lost girl's parents' blessing.
Lots of the Equisearch folks from here are down in Aruba. Their volunteers are well trained and experienced, and there are enough of em to do multiple searches, all at the same time. Unfortunately, most of them have had to use Equisearch's services when one of their loved ones disappeared. Guess that's why they're so dedicated, but I'm sure there are some newbies who're a little intimidated when they actually start to go through brush, and difficult areas like that. Probably they assign the newbies to teams with more experienced searchers.
Any way, I sure hope this young man turns up safe, and soon. How terrifying for his family!
I'll bet you were the most in shape person in the whole group -- 3 golf courses -- WOW!
