A Surprise Visit By Mr. "D"

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Well, maybe it's the phase of the moon, but something seems to be going on. Yesterday, after having Rice Chex for breakfast, I had the usual slight amount of bloating. Last night, it seemed to be more significant than usual. At about 3:45 am, and again at 5 am, I woke up with D. If I get straightened out by then, on Saturday, I'll try the Rice Chex again, to see if I can get a confirmation that it was the culprit. I've been eating them twice a week, (most weeks), for about three months, now.

You may recall that with certified pure oats, it only took half as long, using the same schedule, (twice a week), for the D to start. It could just be a coincidence, though, and I may be unjustly suspecting Rice Chex. I note that in the past, we've had discussions about unexplained reactions during this time of the year.

Tex;

What a bummer - when we are in control, we expect to stay that way and not have to deal with D any more - I think we would all agree that we've had our share of it :oops:

Is it the time of year? I've been symptom free for so many years and never had annual problems, but I'm also having symptoms again right now.

My DIL had a meeting where lunch was served and she took home a huge platter of veggies. She told me it was more than she could ever begin to eat or to serve to her family, so she gave lots to me. I've made a wonderful raw broccoli salad for lunch for the past 2 days, and about the time I get home from work both days I've had to make a mad dash for liq D. Only once yesterday, then twice today. Well, I think some of those veggies are going to get steamed and put in the freezer, because that's the only thing I can think of that could be the culprit. I've done well with raw veggies for a few years now, though I had to lay off when I was sick and when I was healing. So, I'm not sure if this was just too much concentrated raw stuff or if it is something else. We'll see what tomorrow brings after I eat something different for lunch. No eating out for now, either!

Hope you feel better soon!

Maybe it was too soon after the reaction you had a couple of weeks ago - it could be that your gut suffered some damage from that, and it needs to heal a while before it can handle raw vegetables, again.

Here are a couple of earlier discussions that some of us had, concerning the possibility of a seasonal influence. After reading through the first thread again, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe the histamine-based reaction that we get from hay fever, for example, might set us up to be extra sensitive, so that we react to minute amounts of gluten that normally wouldn't bother us. Or maybe, if the histamine reaction is intense enough, it might actually trigger MC symptoms on it's own. IOW, maybe the production of histamines, by our immune system, can actually act as a trigger for MC. The ragweed pollen has been heavy enough lately that hay fever has been bothering me for about a week, now.

From about the time that my MC symptoms began, until after I had healed for a year or so, I enjoyed a moratorium from hay fever. IOW, for at least 5 or 6 years, before I got my MC symptoms under control, hay fever never bothered me. I wonder if anyone else who is subject to hay fever, is having problems with D, these days.

Thanks, and I hope you can get your system settled down again, too.

Morning Tex,

Sorry to hear that you had such a lousy visitor and hope things are better today. I am one who agrees that this time of the year always seems worse for me but then I still have not gotten on the remission train.

Love, Maggie

Hi all;

I'm thinking I may have found my culprit. No raw veggies today and only one raw fruit (kiwi) and NO big D!!! Guess it's worth not eating those wonderful veggies. Tonight what's left is going in the freezer to be eaten later cooked!

Tex, hope you are feeling better by now.

I'm glad that resolved the problem. That's good information to know, for future reference.

I'm OK today, so I'll run another little "test" on Saturday, to see if my problem was due to the Rice Chex.

Tex;

I'm happy that you, too, are feeling better! Keep us posted on the Rice Chex test.

I haven't tried them yet, but will during the holiday season. I've never been a big fan of any of the Chex cereals except for Chex Mix - I'll make a gluten free variety with only Rice Chex and see how I do with them. I'm excited to get them once again!
