thrust

Post by tamijoy2000 »

I believe I have thrust from still taking the prednisone. Is there anything I can do to help get rid of it. Or do I need something from the dr too?

Tami-----when I had thrush I had to get a prescription from the doctor---it was cAlled SWISH and SWALLOW

Believe it or not  but it did the trick-----
Suggestion---if your Doc gives U this ask for the LIQUID one cus once he gave me it in pill form and that upset my stomach

Good luck--

Hi Tami,

I assume that you are referring to "thrush," which is yeast, (candida albicans), growing on the tongue, or other places in the mouth. That probably means that your immune system is suppressed, and that's one of the risks that goes along with taking a med that suppresses the immune system. If your immune system is severely suppressed, it's possible for the yeast to spread throughout your entire digestive system, (though your GI doc will probably deny that) - hopefully that hasn't happened, though. As Barbara mentioned, you will need to get a prescription from your doc to control it.

It has to be done correctly, because the improper use of antibiotics can cause more yeast to grow, and spread further. If it is only in your mouth, or at least has spread no further than your esophagus, then the antibiotic will probably control it, but if it has spread throughout your digestive system, then in addition to the antibiotic, you will have to starve the yeast by eliminating virtually all sugar, (carbs), from your diet, for several months.

By all means, tell your doc that you have it. It is not easy to get rid of a yeast overgrowth problem if it has spread throughout your digestive system.

Tami------yes---as Tex said---which I forgot about---is the thrush running down the throat---bad news if that starts-
when ever we go in for our checkups---our GP always says---stick out ya tongue--I do have to laugh when he says that--

Barbara

and to add the swish and swallow is Xactly that---U swish it around and then swallow it---first time I had that---I thought --how gross--until GP Xplained!!!

Hope U get it under control---

Tami,

I doubt they will help, but who knows? They certainly shouldn't hurt anything, and there's always a chance that they might help.

Sure, it's probably a good idea to ask your regular doctor about the thrush. She might know more about it than your GI doc.

Tamijoy!! hi!!

try rinsing your mouth out with a dilution of tea tree oil and alcohol, clear one.. (vodka|) If that doesnt suit use mineral water with the tea tree. Use daily for a week. works a treat!! well it did for me on numerous occassions..Tea tree kills all organisms...good luck

I believe I've seen it at health food stores, and I'll bet that most pharmacies carry it, but I've never really looked for it there.

You can buy online...if you use a credit card that is... guess you guys would need an american site... also you will get it in most healthfood stores that sell organic and veggie products..

try this site. its a (.com) rather than a uk site which is (.co.uk)

Yes, I think it's definitely a good idea to go ahead and use it, especially if you are still taking Prednisone, just in case it might be trying to become established farther down your GI tract.
