Bad Bugs - Somber Day at Work (or shoudl I say week)

Post by kate_ce1995 »

Tex posted about all the antibiotic resistant strains of bugs out there now adays. Yesterday it hit home for us at work. Our former office leader (who has been semiretired since before I started with the firm so I don't know him very well...only who he is and he has always been pleasant when he stops by the office) has been battling cancer. A few weeks ago he had emergency surgery because some tumors were pressing against his spine and he lost use of his legs. He was in rehab learning to walk again when he developed a staph infection last week and was taken back to the hospital. We received word yesterday that his prognosis is very bad and he was being brought home so he could die at home.

In the end it won't be the cancer that beats him, but the infection.

What a tragic story. The place that is supposed to heal us has become a place to fear.

Katy,

That's an incredibly cruel stroke of fate. I feel so sorry for him, his family, and all his friends. And, it reminds me of how lucky I am.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

An almost identical thing happened to a wonderful friend of mine about 5 yrs ago - and she picked up the Staph infection at the rehab center of the most prestigious cancer center in TX

I'm sorry to hear about your former office leader. That's terrible. Yes, hospitals have definitely become a place to fear.

Those who are not part of the solution, are part of the problem.
