I'm sick, what to do???
So, I've been doing so well on diet alone and very thankful. All of the sudden, WHAMO, on Monday....like I'd eaten my way through a bakery. I can not pinpoint to anything I ate for the life of me. Four days later, I'm exhausted. "D" every 4 hours like clock work. I'm all achey. What should I do to get through this flare? Pepto? Immodium? Probiotics? It's for sure made me thankful, realizing this is how I used to feel all of the time. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
Thanks,
Becky

Hi Becky,
I'm sure someone better qualified will come along and help you out. Just wanted you to know I'm right here with Ya, with the symptoms and thoughts, that is. Maybe start with Pepto, since it's actually prescribed for MC? Stick with liquids too for a while, that helps somewhat, but drink lots and lots!
I'm new here, starting Entorcort today actually. I'm so over this I could scream, so I can just imagine what it would be like to recover, only to have it return. How long have you been well, as I see you joined approx. a year ago. How did you get well? Meds, diet, both? Sorry so many questions, I'm just trying to find out what my options may be for dealing with this long term.
Get your rest, try and not stress,
Kat

Hi Becky,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having to deal with those symptoms, (again). Considering that you're a schoolteacher, (of very young kids, to boot), I'm immediately suspicious that you may have the flu, especially, since the CDC "flu map" shows that there are sporadic cases in your state.

I'm not sure if Pepto or Immodium would be a good idea or not, since when we have a bacterial or viral illness, it's usually a good idea to let the body purge the "bad stuff". Hopefully it will run it's course in a few days, and you will be all right again. Of course, it's possible for the flu to trigger an MC reaction, also, so it may take longer to run it's course, if that happens. In that case, it certainly shouldn't hurt to take Pepto or Immodium, (unless, of course, you happen to be allergic to either of them).
Following Polly's lead, I would suggest that you take lots of vitamin D, (at least 5,000 or 6,000 IU), until it's over, and at that latitude, you probably should be taking at least 3,000 to 4,000 IU daily, from about September to May, more or less, depending on how much sun you normally soak up during the day.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Kat,
Let me say your post about asking for Entocort is the funniest thing I've read in a long time. Here's a little play on words I used to help remember the name of the prescription "End-o cork!"
Any way a bit about me, I tried Entocort, did well at first and then my bp skyrocketed and had chest pains - I'm a weird one. I'm pretty sensitive to any medications, prescribed or OTC. I've gone df and gf since May. It wasn't until August that I really started feeling better. I've been great until this flare this week.
Welcome to the site. Your sense of humor is welcome! We all need it. Let me know if I answered your questions.
Thanks Tex. I was thinking along the line of a bug too. There are hazards of being a teacher. I think I'll tough it out a couple of more days before trying some OTC's.

Kat,
I am starting my 4th year on entocort. Took me three years to get down to one pill a day (from three a day) but the last three years have given me my life back. I spent three years housebound ..actually more like bathroom bound!
When I have to take pain killers with codeine (lots of oral surgery, broken rib, broken ankle..LOL)I can usually skip taking the entocort. One time I had to take a steroid medication and didn't need the entocort for three months afterwards and didn't take it while on the steroid meds.
Nothing like a few days of D to remind me what every day was like though. I eat almost anything I want but limit dairy and fat intake.

Oh no Becky...that is such a bummer! I hope it's a bug that you can get over soon....hang in there. 'Tis the season for germs....I have been well since school started, but finally this week I got a cold. So far, it is just a head cold....no temp, sore throat etc. Today marks the end of the quarter and we have the day off for grading....I can stay home and nurse my cold....yea!
Take care friend.....Love, JJ
