I'm posting this because we have so many newbies, and few regulars who still have trouble with getting their MC under control.
We haven't seen a lot of discussion lately about C. Diff, but several other members had C. Diff either at the on set of their MC, or that caused their MC. My latest flare seems to have been attributed to not C. Diff, but an overgrowth of staph in the digestive system. I really don't understand it, but my Dr. suggested that the pathologist said that testing for staph is new when a C. Diff test is requested. The staph apparently does not show up on whatever test they do for C. Diff.
So, those of you who have onset of D or MC after a round of antibiotics, or maybe those of you who haven't had stool cultures done in a while, might want to ask your docs about this. I'm finishing up my course of antibiotics for the staph and have had a lot of improvement...normal poop for several days...yesterday had one episode of loose stuff, but that could have been something I ate and it wasn't urgent.
To everyone's continued health and wellbeing.
Katy

Hi Katy,
I didn't find anything specifically about testing for both at the same time. It would make sense that they would use two different culture methods - C. diff requires a special culture technique and even then is tricky to grow. Staph should be much easier. I guess there is now a recognition that the staph can be a major problem too.
I'm happy to hear that you are improving.

Polly,
I guess when I said at the same time, I meant when the doc checks off a C. Diff test on the order form they run both tests. Maybe it's a new protocol at least at Fletcher Allen. Like I said, my doc was completely unaware that they were doing this staph test, and had to call the pathologist to find out what the results meant. At least the pathologists are up on it!
