The Problem With Boswellia

Post by tex »

Hi All,

I woke up with a backache this morning, (muscle pain), so I thought it might be a good time to test the pain-control claims for boswellia. Since it came with no instructions for use, (other than "as a dietary supplement, take two capsules daily or as directed by a physician", ever since I got the stuff, I've been casually searching for some information on dosage rates for various purposes. This morning, I searched again, but, as is common with "natural remedies", everyone can tell you how great it is, but no one can tell you how much to take. <sigh>

So, I popped two capsules, and in a few hours, I'll probably add a couple more. In the meantime, if anyone has any idea how much of this stuff I should take, please don't keep it a secret. The stuff I have is 5-Loxin, 150 mg per serving, (a serving is two capsules).

I'm afraid the back pain will fade away on it's own, before I figure out what the dosage should be. LOL.

Hi Tex,

Guess we were thinking along the same lines. I just emailed here:

Medical Department I, Technical University Hospital, Fetscherstrasse 74, 01307, Dresden, Germany. ahmed.madisch@uniklinikum-dresden.de

this morning to and asked specifically, what Boswellia product they used for that trial and what they would recommend as a comparable product available in USA so I'll let you know if I hear anything back.

For the trail they took 400mg 3 times a day for 6 weeks.

Will you post a link to the brand you ordered?

Love,
Joanna

Hi Joanna,

Was that 400mg of boswellia serata extract, or 400mg of boswellic acid? According to the label on the product I have, bosewllia seratea extract contains 30 % boswellic acid. IOW, 150mg of the extract, contains 45mg of boswellic acid.

I only took 150mg of the extract, (45mg of the acid), and in about an hour and a half, my back pain is almost gone, (though it may well be just a coincidence).

Here's a link to the product I have:

http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-5-Loxin-AKB ... ta-Extract

You would have to order it in much larger quantities, if you were planning to use it at the rate they did, obviously.

Love,
Tex

Hi Tex,

Sorry, I don't know either. When my GI doc mentioned boswellia to me, she also mentioned that she did not know the recommendations for the therapeutic dose to take. Of course, it would vary with the preparation, as you noted. Good luck!

Love,

Polly

Hi Polly,]

My pain seems to be back, so I took a couple more. I may not be using near enough of it, but I hate to overdo it today, since I have to attend an awards banquet tonight, (no, I'm not receiving an award, I'm presenting one. ).

I think I'll try a couple more, in an hour or so, though.

Love,
Tex
