What The Slogan, “Save Money. Live Better.”, Really Means

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Apparently that catchy slogan applies to the stockholders of Walmart, rather than to it's customers.  Once again, Walmart gets caught with it's "hand in the cookie jar".

Unless/until the attorneys general of the other states file suit, you can bet that this practice will continue pretty much everywhere outside of California.

Good for California.

Thanks, Tex. I wonder why I didn't get that info from Wal-Mart Watch, yet.

Dunno. I got it from a food industry newsletter. That news release was from the Office of the Attorney General, of California, dated yesterday. It may not have been sent out to the media, and therefore to the general public - it may have only been posted on their website, and anyone who doesn't look there, will not be aware of it. IOW, they probably have no obligation to notify Wal-Mart Watch.

Let the buyer beware. I always try look at the prices on the shelves and make sure that's the price that I'm being charged. Last week I was charged $5.09 for Arrowhead buckwheat cereal at a local store when the shelf price was $4.49. The manager looked and brought back the tag which said $5.09. I paid for the product and went back to the shelf where I found it - sure enough, the tag said $4.49. I brought that tag to the manager to prove my case. It turns out that there were two displays with two different prices. Can you guess what price both displays have now? Yep - the higher one. I'll be buying my buckwheat cereal from Whole Foods from now on.

It really gets tricky when they put the regular price and then the discount amount on the display but the shelf has the discounted price. I think stores do that deliberately to confuse the consumer so they don't know what price they're paying as the amounts are scrolling down the screen.
