More better poops now
Hi buddies,
I am taking a chance in this forum now writing a little about my poop problems and my diet - I hope this isn't going to bother those of you who are not on a restrictive diet. Hopefully we will soon have a GF Kirchen in which I can feel free to post about my diet related life.
I know some of you will remember that I have reported to have lost Norman recently - I was having BMs several times in the mornings and they were not solid; they were sometimes diarrhea thin and sometimes semi formed or fragments plus liquid. Descriptive enough? The rest of the day I would be going about my business as usual w/o BMs or any kind of problems. The only other discomfort I have had has been being extremely tired and overall sore in my body when waking up in the mornings. I couldn't pin down what was going on so I kind of thought it was due to added stress with the new business.
Now, the last few days I have had Norman come out of hiding. I am not feeling quite as nauseated and uncomfortable in the mornings and I am only having one or two BMs in the morning. One day this week I went w/o a BM at all. I am still under great stress with the business. I have been trying to figure out what kind of change I have made to my diet. I think I know what it is but I probably need to test it in order to see if I am right so I can stop buying more of that food.
The suspect is a old fashioned slab bacon that I have purchased at the HF store - made locally on the CAW CAW Creek farm (raising free range pigs). I figure I am reacting to a corn derivative but I am not absolutely sure. There is brown sugar in the slab bacon - is brown sugar known to cause problems? Is brown sugar colored with something?
I had been eating a little of this bacon almost every day for many weeks. The last week or so I have eaten none of it.
I would appreciate your thoughts on this and your knowledge on brown sugar and what it contains.
Thanks guys.
Love,
Karen

HI Karen!
I can't help with the ingredients in brown sugar but I do know that when I eat bacon or anything with a lot of fat, I get the runs again.
My body does NOT tolerate fat. I slides right through me! No pun intended.
Hope you figure it out soon.

Hi Karen!
I think there are different processes for making brown sugar. Some contain a natural molasses, and others are nothing more than a refined white sugar that has been colored with caramel coloring. Isn't caramel coloring usually made from some form of gluten?
I think Wayne knows more about this. I know it came up on the old board, but I can't remember all fo the details. Glad to hear things are settling down.
Love,
Polly

I believe that caramel color is usually made from corn, in the U S. Here's an explanation of the process by one of the world's biggest producers:

P S According to this company's statements, it may also contain gluten, since malt syrup is a possible ingredient.
