The Latest Stats On The Avian Influenza A/(H5N1) Virus

Post by tex »

The WHO recently released a current cumulative accounting of the total cases, and total deaths due to the avian influenza A/(H5N1) virus:

Note that the death rate is slightly over 63%, based on the total number of cases reported - pretty grim statistics, to say the least.

Wow.......... It also shows places I definitely don't want to visit!! Some countries have been hit quite hard. Not that I'm planning to go overseas but I won't be visiting those if I do.

I wonder if the US will be fortunate enough to dodge this one. I surely hope so.

Hi Shirley,

I notice that the number of cases are declining, but I'm afraid that it will always be there, waiting for the right mutation, and/or the right conditions. Bird migration patterns make it a very, very high risk, probably for decades to come.

Love,
