Joan- You may be right about my GI saying I do not need the testing. But I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt because he has been so great since meeting me. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to have a dr trying to figure out what all is wrong with me.
Luce- Thanks for all the info, you opened my eyes to alot more things! I appreciate you sharing all of that with me.
The one thing that is a little scary is how many things I coud be sensitve to. I had no idea until reading some of these posts. This may sound unbelieveable but I do love food. I cook all the time, I just only eat at home when I have nowhere to go!! That way if I'm sick at least I'm at home. So the idea of giving up many of the things I love is a bit hard for me right now, but I love Luce's idea of having one last Christmas with my normal food and then start changing. I did go to a specialty supermarket last night and bought my first GF items. They are only snack bars, but I have to start somewhere right? I mostly want to see how they taste- still haven't had one yet.
Thanks for all of the welcomes, and all of the help!!

If they are Enjoy Life, they will taste like they look...... They may be something else since you don't know if you need to eliminate soy.
I got all sorts of GF stuff like cookies (yummy like Oreos), waffles and French toast which I needed to toss after I found out I had soy intolerance.
My guess is that your doc will not believe there is a connection with MC and gluten. He will not think the EL tests are valid. We, PP, know otherwise from our own experiences.

Hi Mackenzie, I'm new to this site, too (Dec. 10), so I don't have a lot of experience to share yet. My GI has me on the pepto routine and I've gone gf since finding this site. I sent off for the Enterolab tests and am waiting for them to come. I'm a work in progress, but hope to be able to share some positive results from all this soon. Good luck to you on your journey through all this. The people here are wonderful. JoAnn
Hi Mackenzie,
I agree with Joan....Enjoy Life snack bars are yucky! Their other products taste fine to me, but those bars..ick!
It's actually to your advantage that you like to cook, because if you decide to control your MC through diet, you'll be doing a lot of your own cooking. We mostly eat at home, but there are certain restaurants that have GF menus that we go to occasionally if we're out of town.
Once you get your symptoms under control, you can experiment a lot with substitutions. There is so much great food out there that is GF (and also CF, EF, SF, corn-free) that once you've figured out what you need to do, you can eat really well! If you're gonna try the diet, you should buy yourself a holiday present of a GF cookbook. I know you can get some great suggestions from people on this site!
I know this is overwhelming, but we are here for you. Let us know how it goes.
Love,
Courtney

welcome
Mackenzie,
I can`t be a lot of help when it comes to GF DF, etc since I am apparently only intolerant to NSAIDS but I guarantee you will get more help on the road to wellness from this forum than you will from any doctor.
My flares, hve up to now, been about 4 years apart and last an agonizing 6 to 10 weeks. I can`t imagine having a longer one than that.
Twice I have ended up hospitalized. Last time was in August. Came home with Asacol 6 tabs a day and haven`t had any problems with it.
Wishing you all the best and some much needed respite from this ugly illness.
Hugs, Carol

Mackenzie;
Courtney's suggestion of a GF cookbook gift to yourself is a great idea. I am so attached to mine that I barely live without it (perhaps you saw my post when I'd misplaced it and needed a recipe from it!) My other suggestion as you are just beginning this (and you don't know for certain if you are gluten intolerant or have to add other intolerances to that or just where you are) is to do internet searches for gf recipes. I do that lots, in addition to using my cookbook.
If I am in the mood for something and I'm not sure how to do it GF, I google "gluten free (whatever) recipes" and find lots of great help. As I've been doing this, I've also found additional sites to subscribe to where recipes are e-mailed to me periodically.
My plan over the next few days - once I finish all the extra stuff I'm doing this week with Christmas - is to get my favorites from my cook book into my computer. I already have a rather large recipe file here, so I'll add those things I think I can't live without, then burn a CD of my favorite recipes. That way if I misplace my cookbook again or if the 'puter crashes, I still have all the recipes.
Well, I better go so I'm not late to Christmas Eve church. Talk more later.
Have a wonderful Christmas!

Those who are not part of the solution, are part of the problem.
