When I went to the ER with dehydration the doctor told me that to drink water once you ARE dehydrated is not a good thing to do. The water simply leaches whatever elctrolytes are left in your sytem right out of you. However, drinking water and EATING something at the same time (if you can force yourself to do it) is better. The most frequently lost electrolutes are sodium and potassium so eat a salt covered rice cake and eat a banana. Then drink your water.

Yeah, it seems to me that making some sort of your own smoothie with banana or apricots (potassium) and a pinch of salt and water would be ok.

Heaven only knows what kind of mixture they pumped into my vein down in the ER.

Hi All,

I work outside in the heat and sun. I've found the best method is to drink plenty of fluids before I start work, and keep drinking while I'm out in it, even when I'm not real thirsty. If I run out of water while I'm working on a project, I make myself stop and go back to get more. I have a mug that holds 6 cups of liquid. I drink at least 3 per day and more on very hot days.

I've learned from experience that if I let myself get even somewhat dehydrated, it's a losing battle for the rest of the day as I get a headache and nausea.
