How About a Chat Saturday Afternoon? :gathering:

Post by tex »

Hi all,

Let's try to have a chat Saturday afternoon. Because of time zone differences, members living across the pond, aren't able to join in when our chats are scheduled for the evening hours, unless they're willing to stay up until the wee hours of the morning, which makes it pretty tough for Angy, and even more difficult for Tessa to join the chats. Let's try to have a chat at 5 pm Eastern time, 4 pm Central time, 3 pm Mountain time, and 2 pm, Pacific time. I believe this would be at 10 pm, in Edinburgh, Scotland, and 11 pm in Madrid, Spain, (Saturday night). It would also be 8 am in Brisbane, Australia, (on Sunday morning), in case Liz might have a chance to join us.

I'm putting this notice up a couple of days ahead of time, so that as many members as possible will have a chance to see it, and plan for it. I hope to "see" you there. The chat was a lot of fun, the last time we tried this.

Kat,

If you haven't tried the "Chat" link yet, it might be a good idea to click on it, before then, just to make sure that it will load properly for you. It may take a few minutes to load, the first time, depending on the speed of your connection. If it doesn't load, you may need to download an updated version of Java.

Hope you can join us.

HI Tex,

Would love to join you but since I am on dial-up and have an older computer it would be as slow as molasses. Going to upgrade soon but waiting for Windows 7. No Vista for me.

Love, Maggie

Hi Maggie,

I think it would still work OK for you. I used to join the chat on an older computer, using a dialup connection that would only do about 18 or 19 Kbps, (rather than the 56 Kbps that it was supposed to do), and it didn't seem too bad at the time. The main thing is that your computer has to have a current version of Java.

It's easy to check out. Just click on the "Chat" link, and wait for the "Chat Room" to load. It will take a while to load the first time, (especially on a slow dialup), but after that, it will load much faster each time. If it won't load at all, you probably need an updated version of Java, (which can be downloaded for free, of course, but it will take quite a while on a dialup connection, so you would want to do that when you don't need to use the connection for a few hours).

Anyway, if it loads OK, try typing a message in the narrow, beige-colored window, below the main window, and see how long it takes the message you've typed to appear in the bigger window, after you either hit the "Enter" button on your keyboard, or click on the "Send" button, at the right end of the message-composing window. If your message appears in a couple of seconds or so, it should work just fine.

I'm with you on Vista. I spent $270 on a Vista "Premium" version upgrade, a few months after it was released, installed it, and then had to start over, after it corrupted itself when I tried to install some software. After the second installation, it corrupted itself when I tried to install some hardware, (I don't remember what it was, but it was something common that I had been using for a long time with XP), so I had to start over again. I tried installing it again, later, and even after downloading all sorts of upgrades and patches, it still wouldn't accept some of my software, nor hardware, so I threw it aside, and haven't touched it since. We live and learn, I guess.

Unless the reviews of Microsoft's next operating system are so glowing that it appears to be "bulletproof", I may never graduate above XP, because it does everything that I need to do, and doesn't seem to ever cause any problems. I think I learned my lesson.

Anyway, if you can get the chat to work on your computer, it would be great to "see" you there.

Love,
Tex

Hello Wayne,
Sounds like a good idea. I hope I am up by them Tend to sleep in a bit these days because I wake a lot at night & then fall into a dead sleep when it's time to get up. Have to set the alarm.

Love

Liz

Hi Liz,

We'll probably be chatting for a while, so there's a good chance that we will still be here when you get up.

I have the same sleep problems some nights, so I know what you mean. Luckily I usually don't have to be anywhere bright and early, so I can sleep later some days, if I need to, and just work later, if necessary. As a result, my hours are sometimes pretty erratic.

I hope you can join us.

Love,
Wayne

Me too Wayne. I don't spend as much time on the computer these days as I can't comfortably sit for too long. Or lie down either for that matter. That's why at night I wake with the pain & have to go waliking around a bit.

Love

Liz

Ick, Tex and Maggie, I hate Vista, too! I've had so much trouble with mine...DH has a Mac that he swears by, but I'm still hanging out in PC land...too lazy to switch  .

Kat, thanks for thinking of me. :bigbighug:

I have to run some errands this afternoon, but I may be able to join the chat late. I'll check when I get home to see if anyone's still around.

Love,

Courtney

hi Courtney!

I'm on a Mac and have no troubles most of the time. my pc friends have gotten viruses and things that I don't normally have to worry about! Yay! :manynanas:

I have some things to do today also, so I may not even be able to join the chat, but I'll try.

I'll be thinking of you guys tho.

love,
-Kat
