Hi Wayne,
Wow! What a bummer. My brother had the same thing happen to him about 6 or 8 months ago. They got close to a thousand bucks. The thing is, the withdrawals to his account were made online, and he didn't even have an online account. He lives in Texas, and the withdrawals were made in Florida. I don't believe he had a debit card with that bank, either, just a plain, ordinary, checking account. When you deal with a national bank chain, interesting things can happen.
In my brothers case, the bank covered the loss, but instead of being able to access his money, (by means of a new account), in three days, as they had told him, it took close to two weeks, as I recall. Apparently, identity theft is growing by leaps and bounds, probably because the prosecution rates are pretty low, from what I hear. The banks don't seem to be interested in pursuing the cases, especially in the case of credit card ID theft.
I hope you've got some "mad money" in your pocket to tide you over for a few days or so. I don't believe there is much that we can do in a situation such as that, in most cases - it's frustrating as hell.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Wayne,
How awful! I hope the bank does make good on everything, but I'm sure you feel violated. It's pretty scary to think that someone can act so quickly and deplete your account.
I just received a notice from my Visa card company that my card (and I assume all cards in their database) was compromised and they need to issue a new one - again. They just replaced it a couple of years ago. I'm glad they caught it and are fixing it, but you'd think they would have learned from the last time.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
We joined the Suze Orman Identity Theft Kit on QVC. I have no idea if it's any real help or not. (It did make us jump through some extra hoops to reopen our Lowe's account.) I saw too many negatives about Life Lock, especially about the founder. You can do some of the steps yourself like putting on fraud alerts.

OH"! Wayne...im sorry you have been a target...this has been going on over here...Im so reluctant to use the atm machines...sometimes i just withdraw from the bank...theres that many dodgy criminals in this world....last i heard it was a group afro caribeans doing this here..
the bank should compensate you with the money...dont see that being a problem...also its likely you will have to change your pin....more so your account...
i remember making a purchase from a german company...few years back...I purchased recording equipment for a total of £400....later on they sent the goods but they never arrived....i asked for my goods to be re sent...they did send a second batch to which i did receive......i originally paid for this with visa (fraud protected)on the first order......later on this company took another £400 from my visa account without my permission...I was furious and took them legally...they still try to send me magazines even this day lol!!!
good luck..

I am so sorry that your dealing with this...Rick and I recently had our credit card number stolen, and they racked up $600 in charges in a few days. We are still dealing with getting all the charges off of our account. Be sure and keep all records of conversations with the companies that you are dealing with, in case something comes up later.
Would doing a "credit freeze" help prevent this from happening in the future? It might be worth trying. Hope you get it straightened out soon, good luck.
Hugs,
Carrie

Identy theft
Dear Wayne,
I was so sorry to hear what happened to you. Sometimes you have to wonder what people are coming to. I still try to think the best of everyone until proven otherwise, but when something like this happens to someone you know, it is overwhelming. I sincerely hope it doesn`t take too long to get this all straightened out. In the meantime, try not to let the stress get to you.
Hugs, Carol

So sorry to hear about the situation Wayne. These times and what people get away with really make everyone so nervous. Do hope the bank will reciprocate and that this clears up for you soon. My boss had it happen about 6 months ago and they got him for over $5,000.

Wayne,
I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. I do know there have been instances of it in the small town I live in. Here folks are being told to file a complaint with the police. I know it may be a hassle (and they might not follow up on the yahoo addresses) but I would do it. I know they say that identity theft is on the rise. Good luck.

Hi Wayne, I work with a major credit cards customers all day. Everything from account Inquires to fraudulant charges etc. I tell all My customers (especially those where someone submitted a fraudulant application for credit) to call all three major credit bureau's ( EquiFax, Trans Union, and experian) and place a victims statment on your credit information. This way the credit bureau's know you didn't do it if a hit comes thru on your credit. Plus if you have credit cards this will help also. My husband had someone i Cuba using his social security number once and a very alert Bank employee caught it in time. We called all the credit bureau,s social security and everything else we could call.
I just got a letter stating that someone had accessed debit card information iIlegally.(That was just today) I haven't used a debit card in a very long time and will noy ever again. You would not believe how crafty these thieves are these days. Be carefull!!
