out of remission??

Post by bren711 »

well I havent really had a bad day since Feb! Now the last 3 days I seem to be going again...
has anyone been in remission (just by diet alone) and it "slowly" starts creeping back into your life again..
I feel tired, not sleeping well, and my stomach seems to be making noises more often..or should I say "my intestines"
just wondering if anyone out there had a relapse..which Im sure there is, but how fast did it come back???
thanks

Hi Brenda,

Sorry to hear that you feel that you may be slipping back out of remission. Often, when that happens, there is another food intolerance that may need to be avoided. I see by your list of food intolerances, that you are probably already avoiding dairy and soy. It would be very, very rare to be intolerant of dairy and soy, and not be gluten intolerant, so I would suggest that you try cutting out gluten, if you are not already avoiding it. If that's it, you might see some improvement in a couple of weeks, but if you don't see any improvement that soon, I would continue to avoid it for at least a couple more months, because it often takes longer than that, for the gut to heal, and any improvement to become obvious.

Another possibility is that you may have caught some sort of intestinal virus, and hopefully, it will soon run it's course. Do you have any fever? If so, that would be pretty good evidence that you might have a virus.

I have to admit, though, that the "gurgling" sounds that we are so familiar with, are sort of unique to the inflammatory bowel diseases, and if you recognize them, that would suggest that your MC may be acting up.

Usually, once we are in remission for a while, our gut has healed enough that if we eat something that we shouldn't, we will only react for a day or two, unless we continue to eat something that we are intolerant of. IOW, if you're not eating something that you know you are intolerant of, and you don't have a virus, (or a parasite), if you continue to react after 3 or 4 days, you probably are intolerant to something else, that needs to be eliminated from your diet.

I hope you can get the situation turned around quickly, and reclaim remission, as soon as possible.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
