Another Celebrity Reveals Her Gluten-Free Lifestyle

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a co-host of the popular daytime tv show, "The View", has written a book describing how she eliminated the "unexplained illness" that she suffered from for much of her life, by cutting gluten out of her diet. Here's a very short quote from her book, that we can certainly identify with:
No matter what I ate, I would soon be doubled over with cramps, awful indigestion, diarrhea—or all of the above simultaneously. I soon became all too familiar with the location of any and all bathrooms.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I think we can identify with these statements, too.
"IBS."

"Irritable bowel syndrome."

"IBS...It's becoming quite common."

Over and over again, that's what I was told. But the only accurate part of the term "IBS," in my opinion, was the "BS." Possibly, this diagnosis was "quite common"—because the doctors were quite commonly missing the cause. No mention of a food allergy ever came up, despite my repeated indications that I felt the worst immediately after eating. The doctors refused to see the connection between what I was eating and how I was feeling.

Apparently I didn't read far enough. She sure hit the nail on the head with that observation. Good for her.

Maybe some day, as more and more patients continue to repeat that to their GI docs, they will eventually decide that there might be some connection between food and GI issues. Duh!
