Supplements?

Post by Jamiemarie »

So I have been on Entocort about 5 weeks and am finally feeling so much better  . I have also eliminated as much gluten as I can out of my diet. I think that it was a huge trigger for me. Does anyone take supplements b/c of taking gluten out of your diet? I am going to see the doc on Wednesday but thought I would get some better info here. I also heard there are supplements that may help out with MC but I am afraid to take anything b/c of being on Entocort.

Hi Jamiemarie,

It's good to see that you're feeling much better. I don't know if anyone has taken any supplements because of cutting gluten out of their diet, but many of us take supplements because of the malabsorption problem that gluten sensitivity often causes. Most of us are short of vitamin D3, and some of us are short of vitamin B12, and possibly folate. (Enriched wheat flour may be a significant source of folate for some individuals, of course). Many of us take a good multivitamin, plus 2,000 to 4,000 IU of vitamin D3, (or more), but we have to be careful that the vitamins don't contain any of our intolerances, of course.

We've had discussions in the past, about possible benefits from supplements which are advertised to promote intestinal health, such as L-Glutamine, for example, but I'm not aware of anyone here who has actually found any of them to be beneficial.

I hope you continue to improve. Please keep us posted on your progress.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
