Well, after a decent 4 day vacation, today is slamming back to reality. Geoff just called me to let me know he lost his job. We knew it was a possibility as the group who ran the building he worked at/for, announced a few weeks ago they were going to close the building in November if no one else took over its management, but that a group out of nearby town was interested. This new group never gave any indication they'd get rid of the maintenance staff, although we knew it was a possibility. Well, they made the arrangements on Monday and decided to only keep the maintenance supervisor (who ironically has only worked there for 1 year) and let Geoff go. He will get a good severence package from his former employer, and of course unemployment if he doesn't find something else sooner.
He picked up an application for a new job while he was there...one of the companies in the building would love to hire him, and had unofficially asked him to be their maintenance guy if the building shut down, as they decided they would build their own place in that instance.
On a good note, I came back from vacation to find out that I got a promotion to Project Manager, so got a decent raise.
Vacation was fun. We spent 2 days at the beach in Maine...why anyone swims in Maine is beyond me, but we do...the water was in the high 50's/low 60s at most. Sunday I went into a panic as I started having bleeding problems again, but it slowed down quickly and I just rested for a while and then trooped on. Yesterday we wrapped up our trip at Santa's Village...an amusement park where everything is geared toward Christmas. Lots of fun for kids and adults. Although get this...Kayla loved the roller coaster, but screamed like a baby on the teeter-totter at the hotel playground! Go figure!
Well, back to work.

I'm sorry about Geoff's job, Katy. I just seems like people think they can throw away other people like a used paper towel, doesn't it?

I agree with Sally that the respect for employees is definitely lacking in today's world. How anyone ever gets their "gold watch" anymore is beyond me.
I hope things work out for hubby and congrats on your new promotion. When a door closes another opens. I think that is how that quote goes.

Yeah, that sucks about Geoff's job, but WOW!--a promotion already, on your new position, sure helps to take the edge off, doesn't it. You must be doing something right, to say the least.
If anyone catches me "swimming", when the water temperature is in the 50s or 60s, I certainly hope they have the courtesy to try to rescue me, 'cause I can guarantee I wouldn't be in there on purpose. LOL.
