What pain relievers are ok for MC?
Ok, after last nights head ache, I don't get many, I was curious as to what pain relievers I can take while I have Microscopic Colitis? I couldn't remember if any were ok.
And on that note, what can I take for muscle aches? What can I take for muscle inflamation?
These won't be an every day or prolonged thing, just when I really need it.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
The only OTC pain med that is recommended here seems to be Tylonal. Stay away from NSAIDS!
As for the anti-inflamatory - someone else will have to answer that question. I have plurisy which requires an anti-inflammatory and if the doc won't give me anything, I have to take Ibbuprofin (NSAID). Sometimes it's not pretty when I do but I can't take the pain any longer.
Good luck in finding something that will work for you. Pain surely isn't a good thing to live with!

Hi Mike,
Mars is correct. There is an article titled "Here is Some Information on Why We Must Avoid NSAIDs", in the "Meds" information forum, that pretty well covers the options we have, including some "natural" remedies.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Ah, I saw the natrual remedies, in fact I've been taking fish oil for a week now. I was taking it before, but didn't know if it was triggering my GI problems so I removed it for a while. Doesn't seem to be the case now.tex wrote:Hi Mike,

Oh and here's the link for folks who stumble across this thread.

Though it appears the post doesn't talk about Tylenol (Acetaminophen) it does in the link that is found there.
There is some good news for those who have IBD and are looking for over the counter pain relief. Acetaminophen, sold under many brand names including Tylenol, is not an NSAID and may be safe for people with IBD.
Mike,
Of course, Tylenol contains corn. The only thing that I can find that I tolerate is white willow bark in gel caps. I know, I know, there are problems with dosage, etc. because it's not regulated, but it does help when I get a headache (seldom now) and when I ache. It is the original form of aspirin so I suppose it's a NSAID...
I take it when I have to.
Love, Jean
