entocort q's

Post by alexandraCA »

After 6 weeks on my GI's unsuccessful Pepto treatment (2 weeks at 2 a day, 2 weeks at 4 a day then 1.5 weeks at 6 before I said STOP), she said she wants me to taper off through the weekend and start me on Entocort next week. Forgive the vanity but the word steroid goes hand in hand with weight gain in my head. It doesn't seem to be a regular side effect in anything I've read and wanted to know if it is an issue for most.

Meanwhile, I ordered labs from Entero today. Thank you all for pointing me in that direction.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Morning Alexandra,

I was on Entocort for almost a year - unsuccessfully due to side effects but not everyone experiences them - and had no weight gain at all.

Love, Maggie

I've been on Entocort for almost 2 years and I've actually lost almost 10 lbs., primarily due to making dietary changes.

Entocort is a much different steroid than prednisone. Only a small part reaches the rest of the body because it's encapsulated. I've been on Prednisone and I will only take it again if it's absolutely necessary. I don't hesitate to go back on Entocort. I've had no side effects from it at all, but others here have. Everyone is different, however, and you'd have to try it before you know how it affects you.

I have only been on Entocort for 6 weeks, but have noticed no weight gain or side effects, so far.

Prednisone gave me severe muscle and leg cramps. Of coarse, when I was taking it, I had a malabsorbtion problem (acording to my fecal fat score from Enterolab) so I may have been lacking in certain vitamines and minerals.

I also had no luck with the Pepto Bismol treatment. (8 tablets for 8 weeks)

Be sure to post your Enterolab results when you get them. Tex can answer any questions regarding the results. Good luck.

I appreciate the feedback. I think my initial reaction to steroid, though I know it is a corticosteroid, is the difficulties I've known people to have with medications like Prednisone, from the physical to the mental. So, I was a bit nervous. I thought going to the source would be the best way to find some honest opinions. Your posts are priceless.

Have a good day! a.
